First thoughts on the 7D

First thoughts on the 7D

There has been an incredible "buzz", through out the industry, regarding the Konica Minolta 7D. Photographers, from all over the world are talking, and searching for more information on this new "ground-breaking" camera. Everyone wants to know more about this new "Anti-Shake" technology.

We know of many Canon, and Nikon users who visit the Konica Minolta forums regularly now. Checking out the new sample images, from this camera. Debating it's merits, as to whether it should be added to their own arsenal of great cameras.

The beauty of this new "AS" technology, is that it's in the body of the camera. This allows it's use with all focal length lenses. Which makes it very desirable as a wedding, and "natural light" portrait photography lens. Many new Canon and Nikon visitors are considering it as a possible second or third camera, for their bags, just for these types of shoots.

We may very well being seeing a major change happening, in the photographic landscape. If you think about it, what really is the point of swearing loyalties, to one brand, or another, anyways. If one camera and lens combination, is better for one type of shoot, and another type of camera and lens is better for a different type of shoot, so be it. The working professional should always want the best camera available, for the job at hand. Regardless of who's brand name is on the front.

Pro's have always carried multiple camera bodies, in their camera bags. The difference now may be, that the extra camera in their bag, may not necessarily have the same brand name on it.

Perhaps these new times, that we all call "the information age", has allowed for more flexible thinking, regarding one's camera and lens purchases. Now, what the other brand of camera, can and can't do, isn't a mystery anymore. It isn't just the store clerk telling you what's best, it's the internet, which ultimately is the world, telling you what it can, and can't do. And, that's pretty cool!

Of course much credit, should be given to Phil Askey, and his site DPReview. DPReview continues to provide more concentrated information than any other single photographic source, anywhere.
Great job, Phil. And thank you.

For years, photographers have always been devoted to one brand, or another. Mostly due to lens costs, within a system. For the working Pro, this could be on the verge of being considered a thing of the past. If budget allows, why would you not want the best camera for the job. Regardless, of who's name is on the front.

For the record, it should be said, that we don’t believe in the "perfect" camera here. And the 7D isn’t "perfect" either. There are features, that some may feel are better suited, than others. And some users will miss a few features, the the 7D doesn't have, compared to some of the other camera models out there. Or even previous Minolta models. But, if you do look and compare to the other models, in the price range of the 7D, you will quickly find that they too have their limitations. And when compared side by side, with the 7D, you will find that this is indeed, a very, very "feature-rich" camera. And overall, it make's it easy to conclude, that long-time Minolta loyalist will be very happy with how this camera is made, and most of all, what it can do.

It's a truly great time to be a photographer. The choices, of truly great cameras out there to choose from, seems to grow with every passing week. There has become less, and less reason, to not be able to produce quality pictures, if it is truly your desire is to do so. And remember, that is after all, what brought us all together in the first place. The passion for photography. And the desire to make great images of the life around us.

Once again, we invite all the lucky new 7D owners to share their experiences on dyxum.com.

And Welcome!
