comment:I bought this lens to use as a normal walkaround lens; I did not like it. My complaint was "it looks like it was designed by a computer".
Of course for a macro lens that is precisely what you want - flat field, high resolution, neutral color.
Using this as a dedicated macro is great, except that it is a wide angle macro so it is difficult or impossible to isolate a subject, or sneak up on anything which moves.
Autofocus works up to the lens hood - amazing!
The lens hood is a brilliant design, and has prevented me banging the glass many times.
If this were a 100mm macro it would be legendary.
