comment:Well I Found This Lens Around Online Shop Website To Replace My Replace My Ruin Kit-Lens 18-70mm.

Previous I Always Complaint About My Kit-Lens Sharpness And The Tone Color Coz It Totally Out For Me

So...When Own This Sigma Lens My Common Complaint Are Been Answer And Now I Didn't Feel The 28-105mm Lens Is Bad.

Even It Have Some Glitch And The Maximum Open Is Very Small I Still Can Manage To Get My Best Shot With Manual Function And Shutter Priority Function.

I Wish This Lens Aperture Will Be F2.8 So I Can Use For Many Different Function ^ ^

comment: I have the UC-II version. It does not exhibit the dark view or terrible sharpness mentioned here. The lens is very light and compact and can be used to take very good pictures in a well lit situation. It really hasn't been a bad lens for me.

comment:Considering the cost of this lens, $30.00 doallars brand new, I think it's worth it even though there is a little glitch like what i mentioned on the Negative comment but when you use Aperture, Shutter, Manual mode this lens takes good picture well saturated, nice sharp edges & contrast.

comment:If you're in the market for an inexpensive used lens, a good one of these Sigma's isnt a bad choice at all - autofocus, sharpness and general image quality is at least on par with the better "consumer grade" Minolta lenses and build quality is better in regard to construction, materials and feel.

However, this lens is best for daylight photo (no flash) as I have had examples of misfires by flash shots (over-exposed).

positive:Compact, decent speed and sharpness, internal focusing - front element does not rotate, petal hood
negative:cheap build - plastic mount
comment:I bought this lens with Minolta Alpha Sweet body and it served me for many years as the only lens. I was very glad with this lens until the day I broke plastic mount. I replaced it with steel mount.

When I got DSLR this lens became less useful.
While its speed seems to be quite low for first sight, it's 2/3 EV faster from standard 18-70 lens at every focal length. CA is better controlled, sharpness is comparable or better. Flare control is however a problem, aperture is not circular. But - still very good for the price paid.

Light (f/3.8 ends becoming a f/4)
comment:I liked this lens specially during daylight.
Quality isn't really bad for it's price.
Posted a few pictures using this lens (check the forum sample images for this lens)

Of course on low light, this lens may becoming a problem.
The F/4 can be a problem on 28mm and closing in even more as you zoom more.

It's cool for outside, all around.

Absolute crap
Dark blurry lense
comment:Absolute crap. Save your money. Run, don't walk to a "used" Minolta in the same range. It's worth spending an extra $40. This lense is so dark I had to boost the ISO & shutter speed just to get a decent pic. It couldn't even hold a candle to the Sigma 28-200 and that isn't even sharp compared to lenses of shorter focal lenghts.

On the Auto or Program mode, it defaults on my A100 to f16. If I crank it any wider to let some light in, kiss the shutter speed behind. I was really suprised with what a hunk of junk this lense was considering it was "new."

I would have given it a 1 for sharpness and distortion, but I did weigh in its cheap price when choosing a "2" for both categories.

positive:cheap, light, small, cheap
negative:plastic, not very sharp, poor color
comment:I did a casual sharpness test with this lens compared to the kit lens (KM 18-70). Basically it doesn't compare.

Stopped down it might be considered acceptably sharp in the center (corners not too good) but the color from it compared poorly to the kit lens. The color quality surprised me compared to any of my Minolta lenses. Maybe it is my inexperience but I didn't expect to see that much of a difference (or maybe it is really bad - not sure).

On the other hand I put it on a Minolta 7000 and walking around snapping pictures for fun - it turns out to be fine/acceptable. I will never bother using it again on my 5D though.

My ratings are on an absolute scale. If you consider that this is a $25-40 lens it is quite good.

positive:Small size, good walkaround lens coverage, reliable, awesome price
negative:f-stop limits
comment:I bought this lens off of eBay, which seems to have a proliferation of them, for a fantastic price, and I have been very pleased with it. I just had one shot blown up to 11x14, and it looks fantastic -- excellent color rendition, excellent sharpness, no visible distortion. It has a solid build for a plastic lens and covers a good range for a travel lens if you don't want to switch very much. The only downside is the f/3.8 limit, which reduces a lot of low light possibilities. While not the best available, for the price ($42 shipped new in box) you'd be hard pressed to match it.
