Canon ‘Canonet’. Kentmere 400, R09
This is my third Canonet, but the first I’ve been able to run a film through. My first ever camera was this model and I broke it the first evening, before I’d even put a film through it. Panmure Basin Bike Ride
On Saturday we took a ride around the Panmure Basin: a tidal mangrove 'swamp' in Auckland harbour. The basin has a 13km shared path for pedestrians, cyclists and scooters etc. However, it is very popular, narrow and with tight corners with no visibility around them. Therefore, a responsible cyclist can only ride about as fast as a walker to keep others, and themselves, safe. These were shot with my Fujica G690 (58x83mm neg) rangefinder camera. The film is Kodak TriX 320 in 220 format so I had 16 shots available on the roll. 1. Mangrove Beach These little beaches are bordered with a 20 metre grassy strip for the public to enjoy. Many houses have no fences in this direction so they can view the scene as an extension of their property. The beaches are no good for swimming but are great for fishing because the mangroves provide superb habitats for marine life attracting lots of fish. There are plenty of jetty's from which to launch a small boat. Small Jetty A Spring Tide or a tsunami even in the Pacific could cover this jetty with water. The 20m border sets the homes around another 3-4 metres above sea level. Boat House There are not so many boat houses along here now and some are decrepid and decaying. However, a few are well maintained and obviously still in use. This film was taken with a little fixed lens rangefinder the Konica Auto S3 (very nice f/1.8 lens). Film was Kentmere 400 and processing was in R09 at 1:50..

 Quite contrasty, your development, scanning or post processing? @Bob: I have mixed feelings with your Kentmere 400 pictures. Some are really nice, but once in a few there is one with ugly grain. It is not the amount as much, it is the character (YMMV, it is just a personal opinion). Anyway, did you try Kentmere 100? |

Not that much different to other B&W shots around them but they were taken in the bright of day. As a narrow group of islands, the prevailing wind continuously sweeps our skies clear and there is rarely any smog or haze to reduce contrast. Famously harsh light compared to continental Europe where there's a slight haze most of the time (even if you don't notice it). Frankly, I hate grey on grey images and I almost always 'print' to achieve a true black somewhere. Given these were all shot at least 4 hours after sunrise, in Spring, the shadows are deep. Not what I'd call art, just a set of shots recording a bike ride in the bright sun |

I looked again and I was too much like the light: harsh.
 It is 2, 3 and 5 that I feel are somewhat, I don't know. And thank you for the explanation, makes sense! |

No offence taken, I'm grumpy and medicated in the mornings  It's only 7.40am in your tomorrow here and I woke up in pain again. But the quality of light comment is true. I've lived in Europe, China, North America and noted the difference in light most of the time. After living in the UK for 4 years in my youth, I was blown away by the harsh clear skies of NZ when I got home. |

I think I was trying to lift the shadows too much. The Kentmere is fairly good value - I think it is the same basic stock at Agfaphoto APX400. I've not tried the 100... |
