I just got 3 A-mount lenses:
Sony 50mm f/1.4 Minolta 135mm f/2.8 Minolta 135mm f/2.8 [T4.5] STF I got the 50mm to compare to my Minolta 50mm f/1.4. Overall the Sony seems to be a bit sharper with less of a washed out look at f/1.4 then the Minolta version. Been wanting to get the "pocket rocket" for a while now. Wanted a smaller and lighter version of the 135 then the Sony/Zeiss 135mm f/1.8. The Zeiss lens is outstanding but heavy for a walk around/hiking lens. The Minolta is a pretty sharp lens by itself and if I had purchased this lens before the Zeiss, I probably wouldn't have gotten the Zeiss but who knows. The STF is wonderfully sharp wide open. Will have to get used the manual focus of the lens but it seems pretty easy to get a sharp focus with it. Will have to play around with it to get used to it and get the best out of it. Overall I am very happy with these 3 lenses. |

You've found some nice gems there.
I don't have the Minolta STF but the Sony rebadged version, and it really is something special. It's sharp wide open and can do things with bokeh that can make images pop. When I used it with the a900 I did found an angle-finder (with magnifier) helped with the manual focus. |

I have the top 2 from your list, love shooting with the 50mm wide open, great bokeh, the pocket rocket is a cracking lens, so compact for a 135, and sharp as a tack, got mine for a bargain price.
Enjoy |

I have both the Sony 50/1.4 and the Minolta 50/1.4. Never tested them side by side, but in daily use I didn't see a really noticeable difference. Never use eithe at f/1.4 as I keep them at f/2. But I have read others also saying the Sony is a little sharpers. Maybe I have a sharp Minolta or a less sharp Sony....

I have both a Sony and a Minolta 50/14. I don't see any difference between them. But my Minolta is an RS version with a 55mm filter.

Congrats! and compliments! (I'm only familiar with the 'pocket rocket'. purchased years ago, and madly in love with it ever since.
a gem indeed!). you know we expect you to show us results now, don't you? ![]() I for one would love to see some comparison between the 135mm's? THX? ;) |
