This happened after experimenting a little too much with a lens that I could see had SSM issues. I am returning the lens. :(   (see other thread in "A Mount Lenses" for sad details)

After reading Clyde's detailed description of the state of his two A99ii cameras that had the same issue, I am certain I have exactly the same problem. My camera's symptoms are exactly as he describes. (in very long DPReview thread about this problem) I don't think Clyde will mind my quoting him about his cameras (and mine!)...

......It may be camera specific. With my a99II woes, which was determined and fixed by the fuse replacement, aperture was lost. It just read "--", and was stuck wide open. The camera would shoot, but only after a second or two delay after pressing the shutter button. Menus would come up, but half the items were grayed out. All operational buttons like shutter and menu had severe delay of 1 to 2 seconds before reacting.

Surprisingly video would engage, but turning the manual focus ring on an SSM lens would cause video to stop. That's right, the focus ring stopped the video record. The camera just went berserk. And both a99II's exhibited identical behavior.

Put on a screw drive lens, and everything operated as normal..........

The above mentioned symptoms are of course in addition to the AF not working with SSM lenses.

Question is.... where to send it?

The most logical would be a Sony Authorized repair center. (open to other opinions). There are two for Canada. One just over the water from me in Vancouver - "Fusion Cine" They are specifically certified for "alpha interchangeable lens cameras" ONLY. The other place is in Toronto. "Gentec International" and they are authorized for Alpha Interchangeable Lenses, Alpha Interchangeable Cameras, and all other sony cameras and camcorders.

Any thoughts or experiences about this?

Thanks in advance

Mike

Huh... well, I think I have answered my own question... again.

Google reviews I find are usually pretty knarly, but these guys in Vancouver seem to have mostly great reviews. Will very likely send there.

What a nightmare. Something I hadn't heard of before now.
I guess I'll continue to travel with my a99 as a backup to my a99ii on future trips.

Hope it's all readily fixable and not too economically painful.
