The A7RIV is the better A-mount (LA-EA5) and APS-C camera (26 MP).

Having never used an A9, I don't have much to base an opinion about them.

I know I'm chiming in late here, but I think the summary by @addy is about right. The a9ii is great for wildlife/birding. I don't regard 24MP to be a major limitation. There's some good resizing software that is substantially cheaper than a camera upgrade...

I was tempted by the a7iv at the beginning of the year. I regarded 33MP to be a good 'overall' sensor size, the bird-eye detection appealed, and it gave superior video tools to the a9/a9ii.

Now it may be that you don't want to take video (at the moment), but the a9 series lacks the S-log and Hybrid-log options to get the best dynamic range out of your clips (it's a bit like the difference between Raw and Jpeg files in photography).

The a7iv just seems to do everything well (even if it isn't quite the best option option) with no major weaknesses.

That is a bargain compared to the price in the Netherlands, it costs more then twice as much over here.
