In the general rules it states, "Generally we encourage all participants to take shots specifically for the DPC instead of taking old shots from their repositories". I would guess from browsing through several DPCs that the majority of entries are from people's stocks with the minority of entries shot specifically for contests. I realise there are pros & cons to this arguement but wouldn't it be more of a test of skill if only shots taken within the contest "window" were eligible?

I realise this will be a controversial comment but look forward to hearing all views.

I have moved this to Open Views under the thread "Contest Rules" - please reply there

I agree. Newbies are at a disadvantage assuming that most have a limited archive.

When did Kiklop's original statement' change ?

"Another thing we (cam and I) have agreed about is that once we get some winners they will become "the judges" for selecting final images."

Any chance we could start taking up a collection from the Dyxum community for some sort of photo store gift card (store depending on world location) or lens (or memory card) for DPC #100? Just a thought!

Hello.
Recently I made a homemade lens with fixed focus, aperture, and focal length.
Just to be sure, can I use such a lens for DPC? I read the rules, and there is no lens limit. Only cameras.

"The pics must be taken with an A-Mount cameras (either film or digital),
Photos that have been winners or finalists in previous DPCs (or shots that are similar) are not eligible."

The thing that make me wonder if I can use such a lens or not is the lens itself are clearly not a "REAL" a-mount lens, which is autofocus. Well, it is even not another brand's lens or manual lens hacked to a-mount since it is a homemade lens.

Thank you. :)

The rules are quite simple:

- at about two-weekly intervals we will open a new topic and all registered users are invited to participate. Once a topic is closed and replaced with the new one we at Dyxum will select the best images and open a voting period.

- voting remains open as long the next topic remains open. The winning image is the one with the best voting score and it will be moved to a DPC winners dedicated thread.

- images containing nudity, violence or and any kind of provocative subjects are not allowed.

How to submit images

- at this time we don't have sufficient web space to host your images. For that reason, you will need another hosting space for your images and to post them by entering the image URL in the post (with a the help of dedicated button)

- please give your post an image name (which will be used for voting later) such as "Sunset over Pebble Beach"

- we recommend to keep image size around 1024 pixels wide for a horizontal and 900 pixels deep for a vertical.

- we encourage all participants to submit as much data as possible (lens, camera setting, file format, post processing info etc)

- All participants are invited to suggest the next topic of the contest in their submission. To do that simply add your suggested topic on the end of your post.

These contest rules clearly do not state anything about having an @@ in front of the title of the entry.

Therefore, I think is is not correct that any images have been disqualified for not having the @@.

Sorry to say, but you might have noticed that each individual DPC has at the very beginning a clear notice about the contest subject as well as the specific rules which apply to this dedicated contest and one of them is that in recent DPCs the title of the entry needs to be preceded by the "@@" mark

yes, they do and I missed that but if that is going to be a new main rule then it should be ammended here. All constant rules seem to be stated here and it would seem to me that this one will be a new constant rule.

Kevin, the "About Dyxum Photo Contest" post has never meant to be a set of rules for DPCs. It is rather broad (and rather vague) explanation about DPCs. Rules are stated in each DPC and nowhere else. So for each DPC you have everything at hand - it is enough to read the first post (which, I'm pretty sure, nobody cares to ) and you are fine.

Having said that - I can see that we need to rework the "About Dyxum Photo Contest" text to make it more clear for everybody. I'll do that at the first opportunity.

Is there any way to be notified (preferably by email) when a new DPC is posted?

I keep missing them, because I forgot to look for them, (and when I remember to look, the topic is something I'm not inspired by or is just plain difficult for me to do).

You could subscribe to the contests forum - you would receive an email for each and every post then (new contests, submissions and votes).    That may be a bit of an email overload for some tastes though...

For me I vote for that in a contest time window only comes pictures that where taken in that window.
To make it a real challenge for that contest.

So we have a contest/challenge every time to go out for.
And it gives a equal start for every one.

My 2c.

Kind regards Willem.

All ways in a good mood here.
