So, I've got the A99ii and a range of flashes for the old hotshoe (3600 HS-D and 2 5400 HS) combined with a dumb IShoot trigger also for the old shoe.
On camera compatibility (an also using the IShoot trigger) should be solved in the morning with a Sony ADPMAA adapter currently sitting in Aus Post "jail" awaiting pickup. But what's the most affordable way of taking the 3600 HS-D off camera and still triggering it using the native flash protocol? Most places here downunder still want $250 for the HVL-20M and the -20AM seem to be discontinued. Any other options? |

The HVL-20 works well as a trigger, but that price is quite ridiculous.. Can you use one of the 5400s to trigger the 3600? (you can put a bag over the 5400 to stop its visible light, but usually enough of the IR signal gets through to trigger)
I stress, I don't know if this will work, but it is possibly worth an experiment. |

A godox TT685s can act as a master for the sony flash protocols, much cheaper than a sony flash.

Second hand HVl-20's go here for 60 euro (approx. 100 AUD) if you keep an eye on the market. |

That's funny. I decided against moving up to the a99ii and the a77ii because of the lighting issue and the investment in a new system without the use of shoe adaptors. Damned if you do damned if you don't.
I found the HVL-20AM to be useless except for a little fill on the A850, I doubt the HVL-20M would be much better on the A99II. |

Thanks.
Looks like I'll have to start keeping an eye on the usual places for second hand gear. That Godox seem to come in around $180 down here new, still a tad rich for me as I barely ever use flash. |
