Yes the Top Gun school itself was right there in Fallon.
Fallon is a town on the outskirts of the Nevada desert, relatively (in western terms) close to Reno/Tahoe, where I lived 15 yrs. Hence, had opportunities to go to their air shows and get up close and personal with the Best (Wow)

Most of Nevada is government land so the Boys could practice all their flying maneuvers un encumbered
Another perk for living there was "The Reno Air Races" where I'm with that Betty Grable Mitchell, I think you still remember the photo. During qualifications you could down to the flight line and planes all you wanted.

According to Wikipedia Top Gun was partly filmed at Fallon: "Most of the sequences of the aircraft maneuvering over land were shot at Naval Air Station Fallon, in Nevada, using ground-mounted cameras." So, Fallon is the real TOPGUN for both aviation buffs and film buffs
