According to this announcement, Associated Press photographers will ONLY use Sony cameras from now onwards. A very interesting development for Canon and Nikon one suspects.

Two thoughts .
1: Sony has bought AP . 2: due to delays caused by covid 19 , AP are treating today as April 1st instead ! ![]() |

That's very cynical way of looking at things. AP's director has clearly said they are paying a huge sum switching to Sony for both photo and video gear. |

Reading the story as it is they are aligning everyone with the same gear across both stills and video; bit like an army all having the same weapons and ammunition - if one goes down, there will be an identical unit or ammo nearby that do the job in the same way. Makes huge logistical sense really.
Strange that Canon and/or Nikon never saw it to this degree; perhaps they weren't prepared to pay the subsidised costs to do so. Best regards, Neil. |

Or perhaps canonikon never felt the need to subsidise anything because they felt AP will buy one or the other and continue to do so plus freelancers will use whatever they want anyway, they still can.
For example my company provides us with a MacBook for work. But apple gives no discounts despite the bulk purchase. Simply because they know if you as company want to kit your employees with a MacBook they are the only option. So it's their way or no way. Canonikon held a similar monopoly which seems to be shifting slowly. |

Sony bought AP from Canon, as in 2016 they used Canon
![]() By definition Canonikon did not hold a monopoly but a duopoly ![]() |
