Nope, not a grey heron (Ardea cinerea), although this wrong identification is apperently quite common, this is white-faced heron (Egretta novaehollandiae) since grey herons do not live in Australia.

Thanks Heikki, obvious I suppose when you look at it. Always good to learn, to me they've always been either grey or white until again someone corrected me in that my 'white' herons were in fact egrets....

Thanks Johan, methinks you're right. I do actually or did have a reference book somewhere, I thought it was in our caravan as I used it mainly when we traveled north each winter but somehow it seems to have disappeared. Must find a replacement.....
