Show us... Birmingham, England

Show us cities of the world is your chance to show us where you live, or where you've been. Please feel free to share pictures from this location, or start a thread for a new location. The usual Dyxum content rules apply- but to assist fellow Dyxumers inspired to visit locations that are shown, please indicate where in your town/city the photos were taken.

This thread is open for C&C and for posting additional pictures. Please ONLY post pictures taken at the town or city indicated- or start a new thread.

If you wish to start a new location thread- please click 'quote' to this opening post, and copy the contents as opening text to your new thread 'show us place-name. Also post a message to the link at start of text- where I can add your location to a master list of hyperlinked locations.

This is the city where I was born, grew up and left after 26 years. It's had bad press over the years (where hasn't) but seems to be making moves to improve its image of late.

Visited there after many years away and the changes were astonishing; gone was the concrete jungle of the Bull Ring to be replaced by something much more modern. Still plenty of the 'old' place left though.

Please add to the thread wherever you can!

1. Through the Glass Roof

2. The Rotunda - An Icon

3. Old and Older

4. The Chequerboard Building

5. All Sorts of Buildings

6. The Leaning Towers of Snow Hill

7. St. Pauls Square Railings

8. The Old Still Exists...

9. The Modern Site of Worship?

Looking forward to seeing others viewpoints of the City.

Kind regards, Neil.

Edit - typo..

Neil,

nice shots. I only ever saw Birmingham NEC a couple of times, but never the city. Now I feel guilty of not ever going there proper.

Thanks for starting this thread.
F-Stop? F-Stopped! Anyone know how to get it going again???My Flickr

So, you'm a Brummie then?

A very nice series. Did you get any looking back from St. Martin's church (wonderful Victorian pile).

Birmingham is trying hard to pull itself up. More canals than Venice (interesting fact) and the best curries (in Sparkbrook) anywhere (including Bradford).
I've been away!

I didn't realise the accent showed that much!

We hadn't been back for nearly 20 years and were were shocked/pleasantly surprised at just how much it had changed for the better.

As for curries? Home of the Balti can't be a bad claim to fame!! Just don't mention the football clubs...

Kind regards, Neil.

Like many cities in England, Birmingham has a good selection of old and new buildings. I think in the 1970's and 80's it had a bit of a bad reputation as being a bit on a concrete jungle, but you can see from some of the photographs here how cool some of the buildings are.

Some lovely images there!
