Windhoek is the capital of Namibia. It only has almost 450.000 inhabitants and is not the most interesting city in Afrika. Here are some pictures. Lets start with some pictures of the Lutheran Christ Church:

Oh, I did not expect somebody else also been to Namibia - nice! Saw on your site also some pictures from Etosha and other wildlife I will share some of those as well.

Will also add some pictures of the museum, now with a statue in front.
And I think our bus stopped at about the same spot as your first picture, but there are slums between there and the city now.

In summer 2012, that museum was not yet even open...

The location where I took the cityscape is pretty much on what has been marked as "Aussichtspunkt Windhoek" in Google Maps, I confirmed this from the EXIF GPS data on another photo taken with a telephoto lens on the same spot:

α77 + Sony AF 4-5.6/70-400 G SSM @ 230 mm, f/7.1, 1/800 s, ISO 100

I believe that landmark hotel building on Independence Avenue does no longer go by the name Kalahari Sands these days. And the church tower belongs to the Christuskirche, which appears in the earlier photos in this thread.

Windhoek was one of the few places I saw remembrance of the terrible history of the Germans in Namibia. The statue about the end of colonialism and breaking the chains:

Sony A7r4 | Sigma DG DN 28-70/2.8 | 28mm | f/9 | 1/200s | 100iso

16. On the back side is an image of Namibians in German concentration camps:

Sony A7r4 | Sigma DG DN 28-70/2.8 | 37mm | f/9 | 1/250s | 100iso

17. That picture faces an old building with a sign from the Kaiserlichen Schutz Truppen:

Sony A7r4 | Sigma DG DN 28-70/2.8 | 37mm | f/9 | 1/80s | 100iso

2016 I visited Windhoek and roamed the town a bit. Within 2 months I am heading for Namibia agian and I am really looking forward to it. Don't know if Windhoek makes it to my itinerary as the town is not that interesting.
Had an unpleasant experience in 2016 shooting some 'street' at a market. Making the first shot a few people started to scream and at first I didn't realise it was because of me and in a moment I was surrounded by a crowd of 25 people, some shouting at me. The police arrived and after debating I deleted the shot and moved on.
I've got some safe shots which I posted before:

Railway station

In general I felt really safe in Namibia, wonder what you did that caused a stir.

Took a shot of a generic market scene, that's all. Not someone in particular.

That is why I wondered... If you just took a picture, what was so upsetting to them. Guess we'll never know.
