Symmetry tends to be associated with harmony and balance, but sometimes the disturbing qualities of near-symmetry can be used to draw the eye. Assignment: Take a shot which relies upon symmetry.

According to Encarta.com:
Symmetry 1. property of sameness: the property of being the same or corresponding on both sides of a central dividing line 2. balanced proportions: harmony or beauty of form that results from balanced proportions So I saw this shot as "corresponding on both sides of a central dividing line", and "harmony...from balanced proportions". ![]() α700 + Tam 17-50/2.8, 1/30 @ f4, ISO 200 |

wross: i like this shot a lot, but i'm not sure it's the best example of symmetry. it's a good shot though.
Bob - #1: nice spotting:) could have been more symmetric but i'm not going to complain since it looks like that wouldn't be easy.. Bob - #2: that's it:) a nice take on symmetry. i like it a lot. rowvision: ok, it's symmetric but nothing else.. why not get back with a higher quality picture sometime later? EP1121: hmm... i can see the diagonal origin of symmetry but still it's not so prominent in the picture. if it wasn't mentioned in the topic, i wouldn't describe this shot as being symmetric on my own.. |

Sorry, but Eiffel did not cooperate, otherwise it would have been symetric

@ Turerkan - How about this one? I cropped the shot above, and rotated it.

I could not resist posting this as I feel it fits perfectly, but then again I have been known to be wrong....way back in 1979
![]() as soon as I saw this I thought of this assignment. |
