Still experimenting with this lens [FE 100/400mm] and amazed how sharp it is. Rainbow Lorikeet in full voice, and very loud too for such a small creature...

So, how large (in terms of pixels) is this final crop?

The original shot was 8000x5320px cropped to 3229x3229 then the head only cropped to 1867 square then cropped to 960 here for dyxum. Hope you can see enough here taken from a screen grab to get an idea. Just amazed at the detail left after such a reduction...

With or without TC, the A7R2 + SEL100400GM is a pixel peeper's dream come true . I'm still waiting for some warmer weather to test mine without a window in the way. Your bird shots are stunning, Pieter!

Thank you for the kind words but I think it's purely down to Mr Sony and his engineers. Having 42 megapix to play with in the first place certainly helps a lot!!

Sorry Robert but my knowledge of ornithological anatomy doesn't stretch that far!! However I will concede the topic was very badly titled and should have been 'Crop of a crop of a crop' and it was going to be in decreasing font sizes but I couldn't be bothered or didn't know how. Take your pick
