This thread is for sharing your DIY projects.. You can either directly post your experiences, or better you can post links to the threads where your project can be discussed more extensively, don't forget to add a short description though.
What is included in "DIY projects"? any modification in your gear that is outside the intended use of it. ie: lens disassemblies, sensor cleaning methods, lens adapter modifications, reverse mounted lenses, self made hand grips etc. i seriously suggest that you keep the real explanations in a seperate thread where it can be discussed. I have disassembled and lubricated my Cosina 100/3.5. Fixed some focusing ring stiffness and disabled AF for better MF feeling.

I have modified a KM BP-400 batterygrip meant for A1/A2 prosumer cameras, and made it fit a KM 5D. The grip mod makes these things work: VG shutter release button, battery slot for two np-400 batteries, internal power cables.

Info for building your own remote shutter release using an old computer mouse:
As the three pins (focus, shutter and common) for the remote plug on camera side are only shorted in a certain sequence and it's only a mechanical connection via switches, no battery/power supply has to be used. To take a picture just press and hold down the first mouse button for focus and then press second mouse button for shutter release. The exact pinning of the remote plug is as follows: +----v--+ - 1 2 3 - +-------+ 1 = "C": common / ground 2 = "F": activate camera & AF -> 1+2 shorted - first mouse button 3 = "S": release shutter -> 1+3 shorted - second mouse button DIY remote cord topic and here's the solution from jEECHA |

Bouncer holder
for Sony HVL-56, Minolta 5600 Simple to make, fast to use. You need a stainless steel wire 2mm diameter (US - AWG 14), round pliers and small rasp. Pictures talks. 
Bouncer was made of one piece A4 color laser paper (250g), cut on A5 and glued. 
With small rasp make a sharp edge to sit into slots on sides.

onboard flash diffuser/softbox:
adidas shoebox the transparent paper in it utility knife tape &/ stapler cut off the top of the shoebox. crunch the foils to get faceted tin foils. tape them in the inside of the box. cut a hole where the flash goes in, but don't cut it off, foil it and fold inside the box. It will diffuse the light back in the box. Cover the top with the transparent paper. 1/2 and 1/1 power are usable indoors. Edited by omerbey - 26 April 2007 at 21:04 |

Here is my DIY for now. Yet another flash modifier. I used a thin binder cover and just used a little velcro. You'll notice the design is hijacked from the design of the one SIGMA shows on their website. Only took about 10 mins. You can adjust it forward and backward to determine how much flash goes to the ceiling.
