Nice to see my 'home town' through different eyes, sorry I couldn't have joined you but had an eye op the day before. Joe, sorry but I'm not a fan of the fish eye I would have to drop them into something like DxO viewpoint to get rid of those vertical curves.....

That's a very enjoyable documentary of the DM! And a very nice group shot telling the location!

TFS!

Peter,
Hope you're eyesight is quickly back to good as new!
As for the fisheye, it is a bit of an acquired taste. I wrestled with what lenses to take for this DM, and opted for it because I'd previously shot past Melbourne photowalks covering the same ground using various linear lenses and thought it would be an interesting change. Also, knowing we would be in the tight space of the graffiti'ed laneways, it could capture the widest sweep of the action and colourful backdrops.
As an antidote, there are James' and hopefully Adam's versions of things.

For me the fisheye images work especially well in the graffitied laneways - so glad you brought it along Joe.

From Southbank we walked to the Arts Precinct, across St Kilda Rd to Queen Victoria Gardens and then back across Princes Bridge towards Federation Square.

Here's my version of Joe's Jo13. Must have been taken at almost the same time with the same lady in front of the entrance.

Each year a different architect designs a pavilion (MPavilion) for the Queen Victoria Gardens. This one is by Glenn Murcutt.

James,
I'm enjoying seeing your take on our walk, and your eye for photogenic detail.
Some lovely images, from overview to close cropped.
#Ja14 shows one of the vehicles that sweeps sand grit out of the tram tracks, used to increase friction between the wheels and the rails on braking.
#Ja18 shows a glimpse of Federation Square as well as the tower of the Arabesque Forum Theatre (see my #Jo19 for the whole building). The Ian Potter Centre is the National Gallery of Victoria's Australian Art Collection, housed in the easternmost building at Federation Square.
My favourites are ##Ja 13 and 20 of this set.
Looking forward to more please, as we head into Hosier Lane.

Continuing into Hosier Lane and Melbourne's extensive displays of street art. I must have been distracted by the graffiti because there weren't as many photos as I thought I had. In any case it was quite an experience being packed in tightly amongst the art, the audience and a few artists. Joe I think your fisheye captures this atmosphere very well.

I think Jo22 shows the next one being produced.

James, a lovely addition to the mix. Hosier Lane is justifiably famous as an ever changing gallery of street art. I've posted photos from past visits in the Graffiti thread. And of course it's not the only graffiti'd lane in Melbourne - there are many others.
Great group shot again.
Looking forward to seeing more from you (and hopefully Adam).

My final installment - this time from AC/DC Lane to Pelligrini's, an iconic Melbourne coffee house.

As well as good coffee, Pelligrini's also serves pasta and I can recommend the spaghetti bolognese .

Thank you Joe and Adam for a very enjoyable DM!

James,
A fine conclusion to our mini DM. I particularly like the amazing reflections in your Ja31.
Did you go on to see and photograph more on your own after our Pellegrini lunch?
If so, I look forward to seeing them in the 'Cities - Melbourne' thread.

I recall Adam told us he was off to Japan to see some international rugby soon after our meeting, so hopefully when he's back he can add a few of his images here to round things off.

As always with a DM, it's a pleasure to meet up and interact with members of this great on-line community.

Nice photos James.
I really like the juxtaposition of Art Deco and modern in Ja38, and the girl focused on her smart phone on the steps of the old GPO.
Looking forward to seeing what you post in the Cities - Melbourne thread.
