lovely sharpness and a gentle expression. Never heard of the lens, renders nicely.

I tried my 'new' minolta 58 1.2 during octoberfest, with mixed results. Stopped down it was pretty good, on a tripod for nightshots. But handhold and near-wide open it proved a difficult endavour to focus manually. Anyway, I persisted in wide-open madness and since autumn colors are finally here, these nicely follow your image.

The pictures are good, but I do not like the bokeh of the 58/1.2
Tastes differ and it seems I am in a minority.

Thanks Sven, it`s an old Soviet cine lens and it`s really nice for portraits but a faff with adapters. I like the rendering of the 58mm 1.2 and the bokeh is nice in yours especially 3, as Addy says different tastes.Almost bought one a few times but the focusing on such narrow DOF as my eyes age puts me off.

Another couple with the cine lens.

Thanks Addy. I have been eyeballing this lens for ages, the copy I finally bought was 'low' in price because the aperature wasn't closing. Sometimes the prospect of some required tinkering is what draws me into buying a lens. It's got nothing to do with photography at that point, but working with a lens that you repaired yourself adds another dimension to it.

On the bokeh, the non-uniform 'direction' of the bokeh (shape of the highlights in the corners) does bother me from time to time.

Cheers Chris, enjoying these extra two. In the first the 'wild fur' plays along with the bokeh.

Focussing the 58 1.2 isn't easy indeed, even if you stop down to f2 or a little further. Some snap into focus and others 'glide' I guess. Probably depending on the way the lens renders from in focus to out of focus. Can't trust focus peeking, have to use the magnifier, but offcourse that slows you down a lot. and doggies move a lot and you can't let the dog know (verbally or otherwise), since she picks up on your nervousness like no other..

Tried another lens this weekend, which I purchased for peanuts on a car boot sale (the equivalent in my region, no car boots in sight). This one couldn't even focus at first.
