Engine 81 Progress Report.

A NNRY violenter said the RR hoped to have Engine 81 completed by May 2020.
Apparent changes from February are hard to spot here.

The driving wheels, rods and other parts have been turned, journals, and bushing replaced etc.

Can anyone tell me why this photo will not show up in my post?

Here's the link to it.

http://www.rkdazet.com/Railroads/Nevada%20Northern%20RR/Summertime%20@%20the%20NNRY/slides/I'm%20Dirt,%20Don't%20Mess%20with%20Me%20WM.jpg

If I paste in in a browser it works, but isn't a good link here.

It does show for me.

There are some nice pictures between these, but I think I somewhat stricter editing (i.e. losing at least halve) would have been useful. I liked the American in Ely and the two pictures of a diesel and a steam engine.

Thanks Addy,

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by " I think I somewhat stricter editing (i.e. losing at least halve) would have been useful" I don't know if you mean to be, but sometimes your criticisms come across a bit mean spirited! I understood you to mean I should not have posted half of those photos (because they are junk [;))] You may have meant I should have cropped some of them, which may be true. And yes, I do know that my editing is not always that great, but I am always trying to improve.

I should point out that I never intend for all of my photos to be "works of art". In this case I'm trying to give you a view of another place -- really another world -- even for us here. Ely is very isolated from everything. And this railroad is really unique. Everything is original. Being there is like stepping back in time. Much is exactly the way it was in the 40s and 50s. So, I'm really trying to tell a story, more in a journalistic way rather than artistic. And I enjoyed my visit to Ely and had fun with the photos.

So, Addy I do welcome "constructive" criticism but please be specific.

Also, I'd like to be perfectly clear -- I'm not a professional photographer. I make photographs and post them here because I enjoy doing so. Like most of us I enjoy gear, and like gear talk. But would much rather be out taking photos than talking shop -- even if not all my photos are that great!

Kind regards,

Kelly

PS more to come! I love the many original out building spread around the NN railyard.

I can see the picture too.
Dirt being close and not to mess with
Some really old trains and machinery but I am not an expert on that to give you a good comment.
I really like the streetpicture of the Bahnhofstrasse. Do you know why it is in German?

Thank you, Jet!

The street is not really named Bahnhofstraße! its named East 11th Street. I was just having fun with it -- since the train station is at the end of this street. The German name sounds better to me! I didn't think anyone would notice, so thank you!

Kind regards,

Kelly

PS, I lived in Heidelberg, Germany for many years and my wife is German.

And for the record everyone, Dirt is a really sweet cat! Really friendly and happy when people some to see him. I felt bad for him because he needs a bath really badly! And he has some discharge from his eyes. For sure he could use a visit to a good Vet! No wonder with all the coal dust and grease in that Engine House.

Dirt is a bit of a celebrity BTW.   I hear he has his own Facebook page:

Thank you Ine,

Yes, that is something similar to what I get. I post my photos via jAlbum to my web site. Most photos link fine, but sometimes there is something wrong with the link so I will only see an icon for an image. In the case of this photo I uploaded it directly to my site (not with jAlbum) so it is there with the other photos of Dirt. Perhaps it has something to do with jAlbum using PHP to connect resulting in some corruption? On the other hand if I paste the link manually in my browser, it works. That article about Dirt is really interesting and includes lots of photos.
Here is another article: https://mediadrumworld.com/2019/05/29/dirt-the-railway-cat/

Anyway, thanks again! I appreciate your feedback!

Kind regards,

Kelly

Yes it is very strange.

So here is a link to the jAlbum online: East Ely jAlbum

All photos are there. Normally I right click a photo and select "copy image address" and paste this into Dyxum's dialog box to insert a photo into the post. And that works most of the time, except for that one photo of Dirt. I can't tell what the difference is for that one photo. There is something about it that Dyxum doesn't like I guess.

BTW, jAlbum is a nice program. If I remember correctly, the owners and publishers are Swedish. It was recommended to me by my friend and fellow Dyxumer, Vitor who has used it to create a very nice site for his photography.

Kind regards,

Kelly
