That is, indeed, a rather nice Hibiscus, Pieter - we have a lilac one in our back garden but it has been severely affected by the very hot weather this year with many of the flowers dropping well before development; a shame as the bees just adore it for the volume of pollen it produces!

Thanks Neil, my wife got this plant from a friend and it's been doing real well. Probably our extra watering strategy helped a little with that
The flowers fold open very quickly so you don't see them very long in this state.
