Thanks for sharing this great info. Another way around is to fork out the money for "Vuescan" (not sure how much it costs these days but it's not very expensive) and this allows me to use my old Minolta scanner without a problem.

Change Log:

- improved scanner device names to use official names, added article codes for easier reference
- moved device names into language specific section for easier maintenance
- removed invalid reference to Sony for Konica Minolta scanners
- added some unsupported Konica and Sony scanners as comments (just for cross-reference purposes, since they are not supported by this file)
- added scanners Minolta Dimage Multi II F-3100 and Dimage Multi Pro AF-5000
- added entry for unknown (and possibly non-existing) Minolta scanner with article code 2881 just in case
- added extra entries for some of the scanners, which support more than one interface (SCSI + FireWire or USB + FireWire), thereby added two more FireWire entries.
- added file header with installation instructions and information where to find updates
- some formating (some spelling as used in Windows DDK; filenames should better be in uppercase for backward-compatibility; extra section for Windows XP and higher for x86 platform)
- updated version number to 2011-10-02, 3.0.1

Open questions/tasks:

- How to distinguish between Minolta QuickScan 35 and QuickScan 35 Plus?
- How to distinguish between Minolta Dimage Scan Multi and Dimage Scan Multi II?
- For easier maintenance, can we merge the three model sections into one without giving up proper section decoration by creating "include sub-sections"?
- Test all combinations of OS version, scanner model and interface
- Possibly combine with original INF files

;
; Installation procedure:
;
; 1. Under Windows 7 you may need to change your FireWire driver
;    to "Legacy" for IEEE 1394 scanners to work.
; 2. Install newest original (Konica) Minolta software and drivers
;    (typically available for Windows XP, except for older scanner models).
;    Do this without connecting your scanner.
; 3. Connect your scanner and turn it on with doors closed.
;    It will install using original drivers. Reboot if necessary.
; 4. Go to "Control panel" and launch "Device Manager".
;    Find your scanner model, right click on it and choose "Update Driver Software".
; 5. When prompted for driver choose this new MINOLTA.INF file.
;    When installation will be finished reboot if necessary.

If the hardware_id composed by VID_XXXX&PID_XXXX is the same for QuickScan 35 and QuickScan 35 Plus pairs then the revision number can be used on this case.
Using the string as USB\VID_XXXX&PID_XXXX&REV_XXXX (replace XXXX with the correct values for each scanner) should do the trick.

This is only useful to show the correct name as the driver should be the same.

EDIT: For SCSI there should be a similar method as for USB.

I once used a Scan Dual II under Vista and W7 with Vuescan.
Worked great.
I think I payed $50 for Vuescan.

Great investment as far as I am concerned.

This is an excerpt from an original Minolta DS8387.INF file for the Dimage Scan Multi Pro AF-5000:

...
[Models]
;#2887
%DSMultiPro% = DSScanSBP2.Install, SBP2\minolta&SCANNER_2887&CmdSetID104d8
%DSMultiPro% = DSScanSCSI.Install, SCSI\ScannerMinolta_#2887___________
%DSMultiPro% = DSScanSCSI.Install, SCSI\MINOLTA_#2887___________0
%DSMultiPro% = DSScanSCSI.Install, SCSI\MINOLTA_#2887___________1
%DSMultiPro% = DSScanSCSI.Install, SCSI\MINOLTA_#2887___________2

;#2883
%DSMulti% = DSScanSCSI.Install, SCSI\ScannerMinolta_#2883___________
%DSMulti% = DSScanSCSI.Install, SCSI\MINOLTA_#2883___________0
%DSMulti% = DSScanSCSI.Install, SCSI\MINOLTA_#2883___________1
%DSMulti% = DSScanSCSI.Install, SCSI\MINOLTA_#2883___________2
...

So far I could not find a proper documentation for the 0, 1, 2 numbers, but my wild guess is that they may correspond with SCSI IDs.

EDIT: I found some documentation indicating these numbers as revision numbers:

I tried the vuescan. Scanning documents worked, but scanning slides only produced garble, when Windows XP produced correct images.

Duh, I still have an old laptop running on XP. Bingo.

I'm using Vuescan at the moment but there are some problems getting Vuescan to work - often resulting in the computer hanging up. This never happened using the Original Minolta scan software. - I found it quite good. Vuescan has some good features too but the necessity to reboot the computer repeatedly is getting to be a ******* nuisance.
If anyone could e-mail me the software, I'd be very grateful.

1. Install original Minolta software and drivers. Do this without connecting your scanner.
2. Connect your scanner and turn it on with doors closed. It will install using original drivers. Reboot if necessary.
3. Download updated .inf file for Minolta scanners. You can get it here or google it out. Uncompress zip file or put downloaded .inf file somewhere on your disk.
4. Go to "Control panel" and launch "Device Manager". Find your Minolta scanner, right click on it and choose "Update Driver Software".
5. When prompted for driver choose downloaded .inf file. When installation will be finished reboot if necessary.
6. Your scanner should work now

I've used this procedure to get my Scan Dual III running under Windows 7 64 bit. It works fine if I'll launch Minolta software or SilverFast as standalone application. However it fails when called as twain from within graphic software - it says "close your scanner doors" despite they're closed. I don't know if this is specific to Scan Dual III or not, but I'd use standalone mode anyway so I don't care.

Enjoy your scans!

When I try to run the original software for my Minlota Dimage Scan Dual II in Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Operating System I get the message "The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running...." So how do I take the first step to install the original software? If I just copy the .inf recommended here and associate it with the scanner, I get the message "You need a WIA driver to use this device" when I right click and choose "Start Scan" in Device Manager. I am way over my head, but appreciate your efforts to help me get this scanner working.

I hope I remembered to thank HAWK for kindly assisting me to get my Minolta Dimage Scan Multi Pro to work under Windows 7. The .inf file worked and the original Dimage software is stable and effective. Unfortunately, I started off using Vuescan - but it stopped working with later versions. Ed Hamrick (of Vuescan) was unable to help. - He suggested using a short USB lead - this didn't work. He then suggested to disable or disconnect all other attached USB devices - this didn't work either. My completely uneducated guess is that Vuescan may well be drawing off data at too rapid a rate and the cache is being overloaded. (The problem I had with Vuescan is that the program would start to scan, then freeze permanently, until the machine was rebooted). Ed Hamrick alluded to this in one email, when he said he might have to slow Vuescan down. I hope he can get this to work as the software I purchased is otherwise useless. Still, the Minolta Dimage software is working spot on and I'm very happy with the present solution. Silverfast will (hopefully) be bringing out a compatible software with Silverfast 8. I might give that a try if and when it is ever offered. They say they are introducing new versions to extend compatibility.

The Minolta Dimage Scan MultiPro is a superb scanner that gives results as good as anything I've seen (and I include the mighty Imacon as well). If you can get hold of one of these beauties, you'll be absolutely delighted - but they are rare and tend to be rather expensive (about $3000 second hand). Nonetheless, the results are virtually the same as a $15,000 Imacon and therefore, for me, it's a no-brainer. The Nikon 9000 is very good but I genuinely believe the Minolta is noticeably better.

If anyone is stuck getting their Multi Pro to work, I'll be pleased to offer any support I can (but I suspect there are many others on this forum, far more capable than I).

Mi-Fo users of the MINOLTA.INF file above have run into problems when they connected USB scanners to USB 3.0 hosts, while the scanners worked fine on USB 2.0 hosts.

Are you using an USB 2.0 or 3.0 host adapter?

Greetings,

Matthias

Hi.

I've joined this forum to follow this post and ask for some advice.

I have a Minolta Dimage Elite F-2900 which is a SCSI film scanner. Im using an adaptec USB2xchange adapter to connect it to my Vista laptop via USB.

Using Vuescan, all works fine. WOW! But I'm frustrated that the original Minolta software does not work.

The software is rather old so I built a virtualPC runnig windows 98 (no easy task!) but virtual PC doesnt seem to recognise the adapater.

Using the .inf file above, with vuescan uninstalled , the laptop completely recognises the adapter and scanner (fantastic). But the original software says"Error=5, Could not confirm scanner connection. Please verify scanners connection and SCSI ID#"
The scanner is on! The SCSI ID is 0, and SCSI terminator is ON.
Any ideas what to do? Im reluctant to buy Vuescan because of handing over my credit card details to a non-retailer.

Best wishes

I have exactly the same set-up J O'Brien except I'm running it from an old and underpowered XP machine...., I'm doing this because I can't find a vista driver for the USB2xchange adapter ..., can you tell me where I can download one?

Is this good for the Minolta Expression models?
I have not used mine for a long time, but it's like new with a slide scanner on top.
Using Windows 7 64 bit
