And I tried to have a nice follow up to recent STF buy and met with a seller of used 12-24 GM. Tried it quickly on the spot and... it was decentered. That was a second copy I tried. Previous one was even more decentered, this one had one really bad corner, one kinda bad or passable if you don't look too closely and the other two were good or excellent. Center was great too. But this is a 3000 USD lens. For that performance I could pay 300 maximum. What's with those GMs that you have to be so careful not to buy a dud? I would expect much better QC for that price.
So again, my widest focal length on E mount is 24...

Mestari,

Re: the 100mm GM STF. I have had that lens since shorting after it was introduced. My copy is excellent, but of course it is a highly specialized lens. Great for portraits, closeups/macro and of course the out of focus area rendition is beautiful. I haven't used the focus limiting switch much at all so I can't comment on that. Test reviews have said it works quite will when doing close focus.

I haven't heard many complaints about decentering on the newer GM lenses. I have read about it on some older Sony lenses. I don't have that particular lens. I haven't noticed decentering on any of my Sony lenses, but I haven't done any critical testing on any of them either, just real world photography -- mostly landscape and travel photography stopped down.

As for those in the USA thinking of a new lens purchases, now might be a good time. Prices may increase next year (think MAGA tariffs)

@addy landzaat

Yeah, I can appreciate the technology that went into the 28-70 lens, and I’m sure it will appeal to some photographers, but I’m not on that list. I definitely prefer smaller and lighter lenses. Hence the Batis 135mm f2.8 instead of the Sony or Sigma 135mm f1.8.

@Jadom

Sounds like a good purchase.

Ah, well, going from 3 lenses to 1 is one way to strive against GAS

Apparently more temptation is on the way! You may have already seen the Rumor that Zeiss is set to announce new Lens/lenses for E mount. Allegedly they will be of the Otus series. A big surprise since they seemed to have abandoned photo oriented lenses in favor of Cine lenses. Of course, I don't need more lenses and these may be very expensive and out of reach. The Batis and Loxia lenses are already not exactly bargains.

New Zeiss Otus Lenes?

Well it's nice to see Zeiss back in the photography game, but the Otus range doesn't have a reputation for being cheap! I think I can resist.

Sounds as if you've been bitten by the Helios-bug! They are rather special.

I have, on the other hand, gone 567 days now since my last lens purchase

They are all sold.

So I bought an A6000+16-50+55-210, complete, incl memory-cards, batteries, bag.

What remains is the wonderful Sony PZ 10-20 to make it complete!

And I'm still holding out on any new lens purchases.
595 days without adding anything new to my lens line up.

(Let's not talk about the 960GB Prograde CFExpress Card A however)
