After many long years of faithful service my trusty 16-105 carked it on a holiday in New Zealand recently. This left me without anything in the most useful range and parked the cam outside of long tele and UWA range.

Luckily I had packed an RX100 which somewhat filled the gap, but as excellent as it is, is still no substitute. It works great for some things, much less successful for others. IT also managed a few shots I wouldn't have got any other way and is certainly better than nothing at all though.

The lens is being evaluated for repair at present. With luck it can be brought back to life and continue making great images.

Shame about the lens Keith, Though you might want to compare the cost of repairs to the cost of replacement New. As B&H are still selling the 16-105 lens new.

Craig

That is a bummer - hope it can be repaired for a fair price.

Lens is currently being repaired with the replacement of focus gears and focus ring. Cost is far less than a new one well and worth it given the years of service so far.

With luck I should have it back in a week or so.

A shout out to Phototronic Services in New Zealand who are performing the repair, and who also brought one of my camera bodies back to life when the mirror fell out some years ago.

Thanks Craig. I was prepared to buy a brand new one, but it will be repaired so crisis averted.

A nuisance it died when it did though, but it has had a caning over the years. I'll be glad to have it back.
