Well I am new to photography, check out my submission for getting closer, All comments welcome.. I use a A550 with minolta 28mm f2.8 lens, iso 200 at around 30cms from subject. |

ulyshut and WestCoast, I think you both deserve a pass for bravery and risking your own health
 , this seems to becoming a theme here if you also look at Koshy's pass from a few month back.
You might want to revisit this assignment at some future point in time as one of the "hidden" objectives is to experiment with a very close WA view from a compositional perspective to see what new creative opportunities this might give you. I will clarify this also in the introduction post on page 1, as it's not really in there. |

I have allready passed this assignment - but you did say we could try again with improved shots ?
This one was shot with getting close in mind - and you cant get much closer than across a restaurant table with a 300mm lens fully extended :) So this is my hopefully improved attempt at close.

Does this one pass? No cropping, picture taken 23 Nov. 2010 in Elephant Plains, South Africa, distance from leopard about 3 m. The animal is panting from the heat and a full stomach, hence the open mouth.

@ Dudger and NoJargon, not bad shots both, but I think not so much in line with the assignment. It's getting close up due to use of a tele lens while the intent is to get really closer than you normally shoot and explore the extra creative opportunities that the closeness of the subject brings you. So for both of you we ask you to try again.

 I met Anaise while walking through Ermita. She's from France and she told me that it's her last day in Manila. I was lucky enough to take her portrait before she flew back to their homeland... Basia (Sony A700 + Minolta AF 50mm f/1.7 RS: 1/320, f/2.2, iso 160)  On my way back to where I parked my car from a photowalk, I saw Basia treading around Chinatown... Decided to take my chance at getting her portraits and she was nice enough to oblige... |

I think approaching strangers in the street to take their portrait with a 50 meets my criteria for "getting closer". Both ladies look relaxed and connected to the viewer so the combination of your charm and photo skills got you a pass here.

Nice shot, and indeed very close Bahudda.
Two things before we "grade" the assignment -1- You can only do one assignment at a time, and you're still not passed in ROT so you need to pass that first : ROT entry -2- This shot is from June this year, the other rule for assignments is "no mining" for shots that fit, but going out specifically with the assignment in mind. Was that the case here? |
