I agree but physically couldn't get there unfortunately because of the mud flats. That was why I had to settle for the longer focal length as well.
Am guessing that the second isn't a pass?! I was hoping the mud flats would lead you to the driftwood, which would then lead you to the boat and into the picture. I've looked again and it probably works better cropped from the right. ![]() Edited by Blue-Eyed Monkey - 23 June 2017 at 11:22 |

@Metroruss: The police car provides a (slightly OOF) foreground element and adds a bit of depth to #2, but neither image has a sufficient background detail (IMO) to complete the assignment. Please try again.
Cheers... Brian P.S. Daylight will allow a higher f-stop and DOF so that the foreground element and scenic background are all in focus. |

Assignment 3. Not so sure about this one - a bit worried that the foreground is too much of the picture.
At the Castle Gate ![]() A58, Minolta 28-105xi @28mm, ISO 100, 1/60s f13. In camera JPG, autofocus, steadyshot on. Gamma adjusted to correct for some overexposure (something odd going on with this camera/lens combo). Edited by Phil Wood - 14 May 2018 at 10:06 |

@Phil Wood: You're on a roll, Phil! The gate in the foreground provides depth and a point of reference for the viewer. Well done.
Cheers... Brian |

Thanks again Brian - I had been working out ideas for an alternative shot, but now I need to check out the next one on the list.

@LAbernethy: Lots of foreground there, Lee, but not much background. The foreground should add depth and interest to the background, which should be a more prominent element of the composition. Please try again.
Cheers... Brian |

@LAbernethy: Still not enough background. Imagine your shooting a landscape... stop down really tight (>f16) and include something in the foreground to give the viewer context for the overall image. This will add depth and connect the viewer to the scene as a whole.
Here is an example. Cheers... Brian |

ummm… the one pass on that page "Walk on a stormy beach...." was a technical fail; "While there is not a single object in the foreground, the overall effect of the folliage give a sense of presence to the image that works for me."

ok. A tough assignment in a mostly suburban environment; unless you own a Genie Boom Lift; but I shall regroup and come at it from a different angle.
