Here is my first attempt at an assignment. I think that they meet the criteria. There are sub textures in both that may detract from the overall impact. Exif is in the original images but I will include here.

Thanks Brian. This is actually making me think about photography instead of react.
Will be trying a new assignment soon. |

Have been seeing patterns everywhere now but actually had my camera with me today so here are my first attempts at this assignment.
![]() Sony A65V with Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 @ 1/125s f/2.8 ISO100 18mm And the same subject but different angle. ![]() Minolta Beercan @ 1/2s f/14 ISO100 75mm |

Blue-Eyed Monkey: Hi Glen, your symmetry entry would have made a nice pattern entry as well (perhaps better then either of the two here). The first contains so many repeating patterns in so many directions that it gets a bit confusing. The second is a much better example (for which you get a pass!).
Cheers... Brian |

Thanks for your comments again.
I thought the same about the first one, I was annoyed that I couldn’t take it from outside looking in! There was a different example of beer barrels on their sides which probably would’ve fit the brief but I didn’t think it very exciting. I’ll keep looking for a better example and maybe post it here if I’m happy but I’ll definitely take the pass for now ![]() |

Okay, time for my first entry in the Pattern category - but first I'd like to say a word about doing the assignments. I often notice that there are people viewing this part of the forum and have wondered if there are some who are wondering if it is worth the effort, if it is 'for me'. If you are undecided I urge you to give it a go - even if you've been taking pictures for years it will be worth it! Doing these assignments has been great fun and is undoubtedly improving my photographic skills as well as taking me to previously undiscovered parts of the camera menu.
My submission: ![]() A58, Tamron 16-300 @ 120mm, 1/80, f5.6, ISO 100 With particular thanks to previous graduate of this assignment - Hopkins - who got me looking down for inspiration. |

@Phil Wood: Well seen and well executed. That's a pass. I like the little tab in the middle that breaks the pattern (in a good way). I have two minor suggestions. The composition might have been stronger on a diagonal & PP could have brought out bit more vibrancy and contrast.
Cheers... Brian |

Thank Brian -my PP skills are a matter of 'suck it and see' rather than a controlled process. I shall have a bash at vibrancy just as soon as I can work out how! Nevertheless I'm sure I will be getting plenty more shots of that particular manhole cover at all angles.
I now have to work out which of my high or low key shots might meet your approval. Phil |

That's a great regular/irregular pattern jmeviking, and a pass!
On to the next one ![]() EDIT: Btw, you passed pattern before and you have started primary colours but not completed it yet. So maybe that would be the best one to do next (basically you shouldn't start a new assignment before passing ones you started earlier) Edited by pegelli - 27 May 2018 at 10:59 |
