Very nice John, especially the first. The sphere, shadow and light reflections all work together. In the second ther's less connection between the reflections and the sphere. You wanted to do something different and you've achieved it !

@finejava: The impact of the image comes mostly from the color and not from the pattern which seems to be a bit random. Straightening the tiles might help. Straightening them and using all one color (except for one of a different color or out of line) might be even better. I do like the diagonal composition. Please have another go at this one.

Cheers... Brian

Posted as my submission, but have not passed vivid primary colour yet (awaiting marking). Done so to test my exif data: Is it here? If I pass primary colour, would you comment on these please? Thank you. Ian.

I see where you're coming from with the patterns JST1, but for me it's not a pass. Problem is that I see too many competing patterns, and somehow the left 2/3 of the picture is disjointed from the right 1/3. Not a bad picture at all, but for the assignment we would like you to try again.

@Berean: When I think of patterns, I think of two ways in which they can strengthen an image. The first is by drawing attention to the pattern itself. You have done a good job with #1 in this regard. The second way to use pattern is to draw attention to one element that breaks the pattern. I normally think of this as a break in position or in color. You have used DOF in #2 to create a "break" in the pattern of links by having only one in focus. Well done. On to your next assignment.

Cheers... Brian

Electric Meters

And another:

Mailboxes

i've been moving all weekend and don't feel like typing in the EXIF... if you need it, let me know.

Vincent, the first one gets you the pass, nicely seen and executed and nice balance between the repeating pattern and the "discontinuities" in it.

The second is a nice play with dof, but the pattern itself is not strong enough in my mind.

Walking over a bridge with a long lens on - the view reminded me of JVSanches's first shot (which i liked)- so took it with this assignment in mind.
Possibly i should have just got the disrupted pattern feature though ?

Dudger, I'm sorry but this is not a pass for me. I think the pattern isn't strong enough and the boat in the background really distracts the view. Hope you don't mind doing it again.
