    Posted: 10 September 2022 at 10:55
John Zhou of MonsterAdapter has launched the crowdfunding for a new Vectis-SonyE adapter (LA-VE2) on Indiegogo. The new adapter enables autofocus, auto-exposure AF tracking and real-time eye AF on selected cameras. This list and more information can be found on the Indiegogo page.
If you are interested, think about it, I stepped in for the early bird price. if this campaign is successful and the adapter arrived I will report about my experiences.

Any feedback on Indiegogo ?
Never heard of it before ?
What security is there ?

I bought the original Vectis adapter off him , and I think I'll get one of these off them .

I've bought plenty online , but these crowdfunding things for established firms especially never seem right to me .

And I'd never plink money down on them for an unknown.

Thoughts ?

You really never heard of indiegogo? Do you know about Kickstarter?

These crowdfunding sites have risks and "established firms" are more trustworthy than all the wild ideas out there. And the established firms also need money to develop stuff, I doubt Monster is a big company.

I've heard of Kickstarter , and I've heard of people paying money and losing it all to fly by night or delusional people that use that site .

Hence my scepticism.

And no , I've never heard of indiegogo .
I imagine it's the same . Perhaps a Chinese version ?

Regarding the firm Monster adapter , I bought the very first of the Vectis adapters off him in 2015 , I'd seen his one off adapter that he shown on Sony Alpha rumours and contacted him to ask him to make me one .
After a bit of persuading he agreed .
I had him list the finished item on eBay so I could by via them for the buyer protection .

I would call them established, not as a big firm but because they've been around a few years doing more and more , plus they are backing up their products.
Not just churning out a batch and disappearing.

No idea if there manufacturing these adapters in a little industrial unit somewhere, or in the guys spare back room !

But I'd be happy to buy directly off them , with the protection of paying by credit card and the insurance that offers .

But these Kickstarter type things come across as you chuck some cash in a bucket and hope for the best .

The tempting bit being is the adapter is cheaper by paying early , rather than buying something later that then exists .

I decided to take a chance, and got in this morning at the $170. price. I do see it as a reasonable gamble. Monster has a good, overall track record, and that's what I'm counting on. I have all the Vectis lenses, except the 17mm and 400mm, so this adapter will get used frequently. Looking forward to reporting on how well it works.

No, American and it is older then Kickstarter (2008 vs. 2009). Still surprised you didn't know about Indiegogo.

And yes, some people lost money on these sites. In facts, lots. But I think for a small company like Monster it is a good way to get money to start production. I do not think they have a lot of options. What bank or investor would give them the money?

BTW this adapter is also mentioned on SAR (he regularly reports about crowd fundings both on Kickstarter and on Indiegogo).

Ordered one. If it doesn't come I lose a little money. No biggy.

Seems reasonable enough . I've ordered one , or paid up at any rate .

When it'll turn up another thing .

A few years back a friend bout a large format camera off kickstarter from what is now Chroma cameras .
I think she'd paid in the spring and it was supposed to be delivered by November , so she was going to give it to me for a Christmas present .
Come December , no show .
So she was going to give it me for a birthday present .
Come March , still no show .
Luckily enough , it did arrive for the following Christmas !
Nice camera it is too , a step up from the Crown Graphic i was using .

Nice story Not everybody is so lucky. But it is part of the course - there might be delays. The backers of Ferrania are still waiting since 2014.....

Did we see pictures?

From the large format camera ?
I know I've not put any on Dyxum , but I can't remember if I scanned any to put on Flickr .
And then with one lockdown after another with Covid , for two years , I'd not got out as much as I did .
Unlike most of the country having a load of time off on furlough , I've been working non stop .

I had hoped to be getting away for two weeks holiday but I've ended up doing a load of repairs on my 1985 VW campervan . Lots of welding needed . Soon be a new van !
This reminds me , I've still a load of film to develop , both colour and B&W .

First goal of the funding of the LA-VE2 Monster Adapter has been reached; "For early birds" is sold out. Let's see if 150 more backers can be found for the second goal, after all they have to pay a bit more.

The crowdfunding of the LA-VE2 Monster adapter has ended, the funding goal with 107% slightly exceeded. After all, 60 adapters were ordered, I am surprised that so many have participated. Now I am curious when the adapter will be delivered.

Hopefully we'll get them before Christmas!

They need to order the parts up that they need making , do all the circuit boards and programming etc , assembly ....
Hopefully they'll have all the bits needed by mid November, and maybe the first orders will be dispatched before December ?
Up to month on the slow boat from China.
We'll wait and see .

To be brutally frank, I think that's optimistic... At least, if you consider the entirety of the shipping process.

It's gotta go by truck or rail from the factory to the port; that whole process itself has plenty of substantial slowdowns, before it ever gets to the slow boat.

Then the port needs to load it, and the ship needs to transport it, and the receiving port needs to unload it. The ports are the most common -- but far from the only *cough*Ever Given*cough* -- source of slowdown.

Even once it's ashore in your nation, bureaucratic delays can be outrageous.
