Hello to everyone!
Just joined today after a long, long time observing as a non-registered guest! My name is Chris and I reside in Oxfordshire, UK. Grew up using basic instamatic 110 film cameras, have a few old Minolta SLR's that still get used from time to time. Only went to digital a few years back and went with Sony as I has old Minolta glass and well, everyone uses Nikon and Canon so I wanted something a little different, and glad I did. Anyway, Hope to get better and better and learn from all the stunning photographers on here! Be seeing you! |

Hello Dyxum people.
I am Willem 59 years old, and live with my wife on a jacht (Stormvogel) in Kerkdriel Holland. For my is 14 days at home, and 14 days as a captain on a tanker Liguria 4000 tons. So we live always on water. I like Dyxum very much, and follow it for years. And now I realyse its more off a community, over the world. So I like to be part off it, and I am a member for a couple off months. My foto hobby starts at 14 years old (Voigtlander), with few years inbetween off little foto's taken. With 16 year I had a Nikkermat FTN, great camera. And then more off Nikon, dia's with Cibacrome, great combination. Digital a start with, 7D, A100,A700 and a77. This is the place to learn and to enjoy the wonderfull picture's for my. Greetings and keep your rudder straigt. Willem |

Hello folks!
I am few mounts on this site but I have never introduced myself like this. My name is Lazar and I live in Macedonia, I have Sony A230 for more than 2 years so on. I own 3 lenses kit Sony 18-55 F3.5-5.6, Minolta 50mm F1.5 and Sigma 75-300 F4.5-5.6. My favorite topics are architecture and nature. in recent times I have doubts should I leave Sony and move to Canicon. Main reason is that Sony is moving away from DSLR and favors SLT instead. My hope is that they will continue to produce DSLR, that will be one problem less for me. |

Welcome Willem and Lazar, or should I say welcome aboard to Willem.
I will try to keep my rudder straight, Willem, but it sometimes it goes askew, especially on Friday and Saturday nights. Lazar, have you tried the SLT? I was a bit wary, but love the A77. All the best and will be looking out for you photos. |

I joined Dyxum recently, and just discovered this thread. In fact, this is my first post in the forum. I'm in my mid-30s, from Dallas area (Texas).
My first SLR was a Minolta in the late 90s. I stepped into digital world with Sony F828 over eight years ago, a camera that I still have. Who knew at the time that Minolta would be Sony? Well, it worked for me, as I had a few lenses from the film SLR that could be used on my Sony SLT-A55, an addition in June 2011. But, none of those lenses remain now. My current inventory: Zoom Lenses... Sony 16-50/2.8 SSM Sigma 18-250/3.5-6.3 HSM Prime Lenses... Sigma 24mm/2.8 Industar-61 L/Z 50mm/2.8 Tamron SP 90mm/2.8 Macro Jupiter-37A 135mm/3.5 Minolta 200mm/2.8 G APO HS Teleconverter... Tamron MC7 (7-element) 2X. It works with all lenses. My next addition was meant to be Sony 70-400G but lately, I've been split about getting Sony 135mm/2.8-T4.5 STF first. |

@mpb, a haven't tried any SLT. The main reason is that I don't even like to try them. First they don't have OVF. Even the best hi-tech EVF can't see as human eye (they can never can). At the time when I used a P&S camera a still used the OVF (eve it was a lot incorrect). Second reason id that translucent glass block part of the light from getting to sensor. As I now so far one of the main requirements for photography is light. We are paying great amount of money to bye lenses with bigger F stop number so beside DOF we can get more light through them, so we can have faster shutter speed, lower ISO etc. And third I am traditionalist, SLR is just fine for me it satisfy my requirements. Maybe SLT is the future of photography but nobody knows yet. And I am sure that a lot of people will stick to (D)SLR for long time.

Hello everyone! I Have finally decided to register after coming on here (almost daily!) to check out what people are posting. Some amazing works here!!
Anyway, my first camera was a compact canon...can't remember the make. There was then a big gap of about...3 years, between that and getting my first dSLR (dynax 5D) - courtesy of my (big hearted) brother. I recently got myself the Sony 50 F1.8 and absolutely LOVE it! It hasn't come off since, apart from one time. Along with that, I have KM 18-70, Tamron 28-200, and Sigma 70-300 with macro. I'm waiting on some extension tubes (I can't afford a macro lens right now) and hoping they arrive Monday or Tuesday! So, that was long winded. I'm off to post some photos and get some responses. Thanks for having me :) |
