This afternoon my A900 decided to start acting oddly. Under certain circumstances the mirror does not release after an exposure, but will release if I put half pressure on the shutter release.

In Auto mode every thing works normally.

In PASM modes the odd behaviour occurs. The exposure is fine, the picture is recorded as expected, it's just the mirror that does not drop back into viewfinder position.

It began to happen after I changed lens, but is not lens specific I have tried several lenses.

Any ideas?

A factory reset has fixed it (phew!), but I'd still like to know what might have caused it.

I think I had something similar. At some point my a900 started shooting in sepia. Very odd. Changing the settings fixed it. It looks like you a900 was in mirror lock up mode with a 2 second delay.

Happy i am not the only one still using the old a900

Cheers

I waited more than 2 secs with nothing happening. Not having used mirror lock-up mode I assumed it would lock up, wait for vibrations to settle and then take the shot - which was not happening here. I could press the shutter and immediately half press to release the mirror, the picture would be there.

The A900 is a fine camera and my only FF body - it gets a lot of use and I'm very pleased the problem went away. However, the A77 is probably my main camera. The A900 will serve until I convince myself that I can justify the expense of an A99ii (or spot a stupidly cheap A99).
