Photo Assignment #1: Rule of thirds & Golden Mean

Hi there. I am trying to improve my composition, so here's my first attempt at the 1st assignment. I was consciously thinking of rule of thirds for these 3 shots. Please let me know if I pass!

1. My intention is that the eye is drawn first to the snow (brightest part of the photo) at the top & left third of the picture, and then follows the leading lines to the bottom right.



2. The point in sharp focus is approximately at the intersection of the two lines 1/3 from bottom and 1/3 from right.



3. I think the eye is drawn to the curly end of the iron, which is approximately at the intersection of two lines 1/3 from bottom and 1/3 from left.

@ pcarmalt: I agree with p_man and especially the third picture is a good example of the Golden mean (which is different from the Rule of thirds). You can read this article about the golden mean which has a ration of ~ 1 : 1.6 vs. the 1 : 2 of the rule of thirds. Also the first picture has some of those elements.



Normally one picture posted will suffice, but in this case I'm very glad you posted more which brought up the discussion on the difference between the ROT and the Golden Mean (and Nautilus shell).
