   Indeed the composition works, fully agree with that.

The stronger PP isn't bad either and certainly less "muddy" than the first one. The blue eyes attract more attention now.

Could work well in B&W as well, but will probably give a different mood.

	Thank you again! I learned a lot on doing this assignment, both in camera control and in PP! Now to try and figure out a good photo for "Softness"!

	I have trouble distinguishing between HK and ordinary over exposing. Consulting John Freeman and others I found HK also refers to the subject, focus and light being "soft". I first shot an apple with the Minolta 50 f/1,7 and converted it to BW - no cropping or other PP. I then spotted a moth(?) sitting on the windowpane asking to be shot and I could not resist running for my macro, i.e. Sigma 70 f/2.8. No cropping or PP. I hope this works while I'm still working on where to challenge my comfort zone. That assignment (#2) sure has some existensial aspects. #1: The apple #2: The moth(?) 	@j-ew, I like both of them, nice compositions and the high key added something extra. In the first maybe you could increase the contrast in the crown of the apple a bit to have a slightly darker "spot" for your eyes to rest on. The moth is also nice, I like the translucent texture in the wings.

	I do agree: there should have been more contrast in the apple. However to make these assignments as difficult as possible, I don't use PP. If possible I try to make it in-camera. No I just await Rosie's verdict...... Edited by j-ew - 15 November 2009 at 12:33

	j-ew and others You might have seen that Rosie has been promoted to moderator emeritus and handed over the baton on judging assignments to me. Rosie, thanks for your relentless effort to keep the assignments going and check in once in a while to tell us what you think of the pics posted here. Now back to j-ew's shots. For me they're a definite pass, on both pictures (and only one is needed). On your remark about PP, I think there's levels of PP that would be allowed in this assignment. The rules say the overexposure needs to be achieved in camera (and you did that) but I wouldn't be opposed to a mild application of levels/curves to try and make the impact of a picture somewhat greater.
