I hope you'll indulge the sequence of shots here. These are a7R shots, cropped into a panoramic settings. It's the surf at Te Henga (O'Neill's Bay).

Shutter was slowed (0.4 seconds) to get some of the motion of the waves

Used to "tongue in cheek" answer the usual "you after birds" question that people ask when out birding with "nope, just like to stitch my landscapes for detail"
Today I found myself doing just that

A question about panoramas made me go back and look at some of my panoramic head shots... A look back at some of this old stuff has made me want to go out and try some more.

It is week 50 I was in Utrecht to attend a scientific symposium. In line with week 50 requirements I only had one focal length with me and while traveling only a small camera (A6000). I entered a very narrow alley in which I saw an interesting tile tableau. 50 mm on APS-C doesn't cover it. A sweep panoramo cuts too much off at the top and bottom so I finally took 3 vertical handheld shots. This is what the Lightroom panorama function produced based on those, not so shabby at all!

Recently I was in Rockhampton doing a week long photoshoot and one afternoon there were a series of storms moving through the region, so I headed to an area that I knew where they would pass through as they would head out to sea and hopefully provide some beautiful light and maybe some lightning shots. The first pano is where three storms converged, though there was some lightning around, it was striking an area where the camera was not pointed also sheet lightning above the clouds and as I completed this pano, there were some lightning strikes only 100meters behind me and moving towards me. The violet colour is due to the sun shining through rain and the light scattering and some rain catching the light as it was falling.

Descrition being the better part of valor, I quickly packed up the gear just in time for a downpour that lasted about half an hour, after which I was then able to set back up and get the very last light as the sun was setting and darkness quickly closed in.

It was back to Auckland on Monday night. This time I was at Stanley Point.

This is a 9 image stitch. All shots at 30 seconds, f16, IS0 200 and with the 70-200mm f2.8 G set at 135mm.

Again I was pleased at the level of detail captured and retained in the final photo-

Visit to one of the wife's workmate's today at her retirement dream spots, right out in the sticks! Was geared for birding when she mentioned that she'd love a shot of the house for a canvas, a 150-500 lens makes for bad landscape shots so had to improvise.
10xportrait shots stitched in MS ICE, result is 15000 pixels wide.

That's a nice view- I like the way the sides of the image dip in toward the centre and create a strong point of interest. That's not always easy to do with Panoramas.

Akunde; thank you, glad you liked it. Yes I did juice up the color a touch, mostly to counter the very bright sun that day. I have to tell you I enjoyed being there taking that picture very much.
I'm finishing up an album of that day I will be posting, "Marin Headlands" which includes the Point Bonita Lighthouse and an authentic Nike Missile site.
Once again, thank you for taking the time to comment, appreciate it_________Coast

A couple of the SS Maheno, an ocean liner launched in 1905 and eventually washing ashore on Fraser Island after a cyclone in 1935. Not a great deal left of the wreck now, as it still sits in the surf being pummeled by waves.

Of note, she was outfitted as a hospital ship during WW1 for the NZ Naval Forces.

A wonderful surreal feeling to these ones, particularly #1. I wonder if #2 might benefit from trimming of the extreme edges, to exclude the little outcrops of land..

Thanks Mikey! I do like how #1 turned out. Might get a print done of that one.

#2 isn't as nice in a smaller resolution, but the full res version is quite nice as you can see an incredible amount of detail in the entire scene.

Both were shot in the portrait orientation. #1 consist of 5 images and #2 of 7

Michael, that is a great image. I'm generally not a fan of images from expanded-spectrum conversions, but in this case it just simply works. The color of the vegetation almost makes it look like an alien landscape, and I love the small details like the road in the far distance. The addition of the overcast sky definitely bumps the drama up a notch, as well. Awesome stuff.

One from early 2017 that I just found that I had taken and had not got around to stitching. It was one from a session that I did during an afternoon storm. This pano was taken right on sunset and the light was spectacular at the time (this light didnt last long, just a minute or two, then it was gone) and although it looks like its had the saturation pushed to the limits, well, the saturation is just above zero. I dont know why I hadnt got round to processing and stitching this one before now. Oh well, better late than never I guess.

At the time the colours reminded me of an Oriental Dwarf-kingfisher.

Sunset Storm - Hidden Valley

http://www.wildlife-horizons.com.au">

I'm thinking that I might go back and put the saturation back to zero as at the moment, to me it looks a little strong.

Thanks for looking

Regards,
Craig

Thanks James.

When I was in the area, about a 45minute drive away from the above location, a storm was passing through while I was at the motel where we were staying and once the hail had stopped, I jumped in the car and headed to this spot hoping for some spectacular light and also some lightning.

The spectacular light I got, however the lightning was only a few hundred meters behind me at the time and so as the storm then passed overhead, I took cover in the car until the worst was past then I setup again and took a few more pano's and fortunately the hail went around me. Unfortunately no lightning in the direction of the mountains.

Cant have everything I guess.

This is a 3 shot stitch featuring the Fisgard Lighthouse down below Fort Rodd Hill in Colwood, BC.

Opens too a nice viewing size.... having trouble with colour on my monitor so I have no idea how it looks. Strongly backlit.

Horizon, lovely set!
#1 is just perfect and might do well in B&W
#2 feels a bit over processed, especially on the clouds, IMHO.
#3 Nice and strong sunset colors.
#4 Has a painting feel to it.

Colors are very strong, punchy with strong contrast on all of them. It feels very strong full without feeling oversaturated, something rare.

TFS.
