thank you everybody for your kind comments...!
skm.sa100 I understand your feeling... but this shot in particular was deliberately planned behind a dirty shower glass - dirtiness making a striking contrast with somehow ethereal portrait!

Thanks! I know some people would want to correct the barrel distortion but with these old lenses like this - this was using my MD Rokkor 28/2.8 - I like to embrace the "shortcomings" and take the shot for what it's worth. I could actually see the barrel distortion when shooting and was like, meh, it'll be part of the shot.

Pavel,
Great portrait, the model standing out against the OOF background that still provides the context.
The colours look like a replica of old prints or slides.

Great lighting, good pose and composition. I also see a bit more color neutrality compared to what i usually see in your portraits - which tends to the green a tiny bit. Which is not unattractive btw.

thanks,

this was a straight-up "beauty" headshot session... it was put together by the makeup artist to showcase her skills. I can't be deviating from the colors that she chose to put on the model (makeup-wise). Those other portraits that you mentioned with the green tone, they are more or less my attempt at a painterly style that I'm still trying to establish.

@ombre,
That's a fine portrait, with the subject gazing engagingly at the viewer, and framed in the muted coloured and vignetted setting. Perhaps that OOF flesh coloured highlight in the left foreground could be cloned out as I find it a bit of a distraction.
Thanks for sharing.

The second one is quite lovely. I like the rather low contrast and that makes the flowers pop.

Ken, quite envious of your skills. You need to write a knowledge base article on how to setup and use a studio effectively for mere mortals such as myself.

Thanks, Charles.
My wife dressed up our daughter in traditional Indian clothes for something they were working on. I took a few pics and they came out nicely.
Minolta colors! The saturation on the colors is quite pleasing to my eye. No adjustments or touch ups done. Just SOOC.

Use my two 24"x24" soft boxes along with a dark backdrop to try some studio shots. My lighting setup is basic and I'm relatively new to studio photography.
Asked a buddy to model for me.

One glaring issue with this shot is the lack of a rim light which causes the dark hair to blend into the background.

C&C requested.

And a brighter version. I suppose the brighter one is "better" but I wanted a bit of a low key effect.

The first for me. the hair light would have spoiled the low key edgy vibe.

Posted By: MichelvA

Both shots aren't bad and show potential. But the second, while the model is clearer visible, has too much exposure. The first has a touch of magic, but is too dark. So 'd suggest up the exposure a little and see what comes out.
