Hendrick,
Great shot of that vintage MG. Love the B&W that's so fitting for the subject.

Hi Hendrick,

Great shot! Sharp at the grille and lights and blending into a nicely diffsed cockpit area creating a sweeping effect so fitting for the corner. This is a really fine image of thus subject in context and the conversion to a monotone image (though not a B&W form 'of the day' - never mind) just adds to the whole style and feel of the image.

Well done and thanks for sharing this with us.

Best regards, Neil.

Here I unfortunately do not understand the expression: though not a B&W form 'of the day'. Just out of curiosity, what does that mean?

Well, my intention was to add a kind of Sepia toning to this picture. Maybe I didn't hit the right color tone, added too much Margenta?

Best regards, Hendrick

Hi Hedrick,

Sorry for the confusion! The phrase was meant to reflect (as you've now mentioned) that it is neither a 'true' monochrome nor a sepia toned shot that would have been more typical of the era of the car - to me, this looks more like a Selenium toned shot which have that slightly more magenta/blue (think like a steel-like look) tone as I think this shot has. It's no big issue but I think a 'true' B&W look would have been good to see, especially as there is nothing else in the image that takes it out of period.

All that said, it is still a great shot and full of motion and look - great placing for you as the photographer to get this particular image.

I hope that helps explain my comment and apologies again for any confusion.

Best regards, Neil.

Warszawa. Car produced in Poland given to Poland by Soviet Union as "Brotherhood Gift from Soviet labor people to Polish labor people". Earlier model was simply American Chevy or so design from late 30ties or early 40ties stolen by Soviets and produced by them under name Pobeda (Victory). Warszawa got its name after Capital City of Poland:

The top blue one looks to be an extremely rare 59 El Camino. This is just off the top of my head, but so rare I don't think I've ever seen one, and I've gone to a lot of car shows. It actually may be a one of a kind custom 🤷‍♂️

The El Camino was a strange "hybrid". Not a pickup truck and not a regular car. Chevy may be the only one who built these, I don't know, They eventually sold very well in the niche market and had quite a long production run.
Mostly on farms and in the west, not really a city vehicle.

In my opinion the 59 2 door Chevy was maybe its most customizable car. You could almost make it into a rocket. When you look at those era cars and todays Chevy's I ask myself, What has happened to us?

I grew up in the 60's in Detroit, and I don't think I ever saw this particular El Camino. But I did some checking and that is a '59.

There is another hybrid, the Ford Ranchero which came to market two years before the El Camino in 1957.

There was a huge vintage (and not only) cars show on Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, NC last weekend. We could see hundreds of cars from beginning of XX century as well as new Corvettes or Camaros.
Many spectators (including myself) were there so I had some problems with getting enough room to take picture. But regardless of problems I have taken over two hundred pics. I didn't see all vehicles because I would need at least one or two more visits to do it.
Well, I got what I got and I want to share a several pics with you.

According to last weekend Auto Fair I am asking my Dyxum friends for help.
Below are two cars from this show I forgot to check what make they are.
So perhaps somebody can help me recognizing them. I thank you in advance.

This second one can be European car as it was parked next to 1937 Fiat 500 but I can be wrong.

The first looks like a 1950 Ford with a continental kit and the tail lights cleaned up a little bit.

The Ghostbusters vehicle looks more like an 83 or 84 Cadillac based on the additional lights in the bumper.

Thank you for your help, Basil. The first one in fact is 1950 Ford two door sedan. Talking about Cadillac Ghostbusters vehicle: thank you for pointing me on Caddy model. I have taken this model year basing on Wiki info and did not check on its model. This one on my picture is replica of original 1959 Cadillac Hearse Ghostbusters Vehicle based on 1974 Cadillac Hearse vehicle. I made correction on my picture.
And last blue car still remains a mystery.

I suspected as much, but just wasn't sure on what year.

I'm taking my hat off to you, Sir. Thank you so much for your help, Basil. I have never heard about this manufacturer especially that I would place this car somewhere in Europe according to its size. So now all my picture will have descriptions.

Nice shot with appropriate processing Addy.
My grandmother had several of those (in succession), she always called it her "hondenhok" (=dog house), great cars and quite reliable, but quite weak when involved in an accident.

I love the R4 and had a maroon 4GL (with the grey wide plastic strips on the lower doors). We went all over Europe camping in it on my annual leave from the British Army. Fun to drive with the push-pull gear lever and the only car I have ever, in more than fifty years of driving, had a speeding ticket in! Albeit for exceeding 30mph

I traded up to a white R8S, then a red R12TL, then a gold (colour) R16TS and my final Renault, a green R17TS with a black go-faster Starsky and Hutch stripe . Your photo brought back many happy memories Addy, TFS.

Hello Brian,

the CitroŽn 2CV still has the umbrella-grip: the push-pull gear lever, and it still is great fun to drive it. It just drove almost 4800km in 3 weeks to France and back.

Thanks Harm. I know the deux chevaux well and was tempted recently to invest in one to tinker with, but it was too far gone with the dreaded tin worm. A work colleague of mine a few years ago had a red and white "Dolly" 2CV and spent a small fortune having it professionally restored. He takes it to shows now.

Yours looks great

Ours from 1985 is maintained by a dedicated workshop. We bought it in 2009 for 4k, now it is worth about 12,5k.
We love to go camping in it, no, with it. We do sleep in a tent

They are personal plates. The NETHERLANDS is one of the rare countries where plates are connected to a specific car.

That does not explain different cars having the same license plate. I feel a license plate should uniquely identify the car. Whether the license plate is linked to the car or the owner is irrelevant imho. Normal https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_registration_plates_of_the_United_Kingdom - British registration plates are linked to the car with an area code, then a age identifier and finally random letters. Like in The Netherlands, by default, a UK registration plate will accompany a vehicle throughout the vehicle's lifetime. The exception are personalised plates.

With personalised plates, how do you know which car speeded if they all have the same plates?

In Belgium a plate is personal (and can be personalised) but can only be used on one vehicle at the time. But when I bought a new car (and buy a new one in the future) my registration plate will stay the same.

I would think the same is true for the UK and these pictures were all taken at different points in time, but I'm sure Brian can tell us.

I'm really sorry to have caused a bit of confusion here. Pieter is quite right, all of the photos in my post were taken at different times and L4 BCY has only even been assigned to one vehicle at a time. (If I had actually owned all of those at the same time it would probably mean I would have a Leica M11).

Personalised number plates here in the UK are very big business and some are sold for ridiculous amounts, very often worth more than the vehicle they are assigned to! My wife bought my plate many years ago as a Christmas present and it signifies (to us at least) "Lesley for Brian Colin Young". Every time I have changed my car, or motorbike, I have paid to have the number transferred to the new car and the original registration number is reassigned.

There are a lot of regulations but the most significant one, as our number plates signify year of original registration is that you cannot put a private number plate on a vehicle that would make it look newer than it is, but it is okay to assign an old plate to a new car.

A couple of links to illustrate:
UK Government website page explaining the rules https://www.gov.uk/buy-a-personalised-registration-number - here
10 most expensive number plates sold in the UK https://www.primoregistrations.co.uk/article/view/the-uks-10-most-expensive-number-plates - here

Thanks for taking an interest Addy and to Harm and Pieter for explaining.
