Given the appetite so far, expressed in the https://www.dyxum.com/dforum/2020-dyxum-postcard-exchange_topic138473_page1.html - DPE 2020 thread , I have decided to start a new thread for 2021 to get the 2021 Dyxum Postcard Exchange process going!
For those of you who weren't involved before, the details for registration can be found below.
SUBSCRIPTION IS OPEN UNTIL 19 SEPTEMBER 2021
INTRODUCTION The 2021 Dyxum Postcard Exchange is open to all members of the Dyxum community.
The intent of the exchange is to share prints of your own photographs with other like minded Minolta/Sony camera users (and other hangers on!), whether Digital or Film, via sending them as postcards.
THE PROCESS The exchange will be structured as follows: Registration - This will be a set period as announced in this initial call to exchange thread.
Each member who wishes to participate in the exchange must register during the sign on period. Please do this by replying in this thread only - do not send any postal address details to anyone yet - we will ask for this later.
FOR THIS TO BE A SUCCESS, YOU MUST BE COMMITTED TO SEND CARDS TO ALL YOUR DESIGNATED RECIPIENTS
You should show your intent to be involved in the call to exchange in this thread, but please DO NOT POST YOUR ADDRESS DETAILS ON THE PUBLIC FORUM!!!
Like last years there won’t be a draw for practical reasons. Once we have closed the subscription, we will create a list where we will try to create maximal geographical spread and travel distances for the cards.
The idea is to send cards to 5 people below you on the FINAL LIST (to be published after the submission closing date!).
Print and Post - The second to last and most important step is up to you guys. It's time to get a printing and sending them out!
How you print them and how you do your postcards is totally up to you. Keep in mind that some postal systems may have maximum sizes for postcards, so as a rough guide, printing standard 4 inch by 6 inch cards would be a good standard. You can print using home printers, but it may work out better in the long run to print using a mini-lab service (& probably cheaper).
The postcard backs, again it's totally up to you. You will find that quite a few places will sell self-adhesive backs, which may make the process just that little bit easier.
Once you are done, address the cards (please get them right!), put the right postage stamp on for the destination and send them on their way!
Receiving cards - Hopefully, over the following weeks you should start to receive postcards to your letter box. Enjoy the cards, marvel at others photography and be inspired!
Once the registrations are done and the print, post and receive process is well underway, a new thread will be started (or we'll use this one) that can be used for feedback and other general discussion. It’s a good idea to post that you have received a card, so we know that they are hitting the mark. It’s also a good idea to maybe make a comment or two about the cards that you receive.
With any luck, the whole process should be done and dusted over a two or three month period (approximately one month for registrations, two months for printing, sending and receiving).
RULES Now, without getting too wordy, I think there are a few common sense rules. Briefly:
Be Committed - For this to be a success, the members who participate should be committed to seeing the process through. If you say you are going to send cards, please ensure that you do send cards!
Image guidelines - As this is done under the banner of Dyxum, please ensure that the images you send conform to Dyxum guidelines. (i.e., no racist, sexist, violent, pictures depicting cruelty, drug use, sex or nudity)
Text guidelines - A short description of the postcards' subject is useful for the recipient!
SOME GENERAL GUIDELINES Theme - The theme is open subject, but it might be a good idea to show something local to where you live. Maybe show an image that was taken, say, within 100miles/160km of your home? This is not a strict rule, but try and keep it close to home. Not that we don't want to see your vacation photos, but the point of the exchange is to make unique postcards from your locale.
Personalize your cards - Once you get the list of recipients, maybe it would be a good opportunity to do some research on the members on your list? Maybe you could personalize the message or the image on the card? Maybe you might be able to send them something that they may not normally look at and see? When receiving cards, look at what has been sent to you with an open mind.
Don't be tempted to stick your card between two pieces of cardboard and put them in an envelope. Half the fun of sending and receiving postcards is how they end up at the other end. Sure, they might be a bit bent, but that adds to the character of a postcard.
Once all your postcards have been received (or if you get no notification, towards the end of the exchange period), maybe show what you had sent?
Try not to be lazy! Make each postcard a different image (if you can). Don't forget, this is a Film Friendly activity as well! If anyone wants to make suggestions to these rules or guidelines, just make a post.
Lots of participants from lots of different countries make these exchanges fun, so sign up now, and lets beat the number of last year !!

So, if I understand it well, 5 members will be connected to me to whom I have to send a postcard, made from a picture, shot during the and for the DPE? Every one an other picture?
On the other hand, I will receive 5 postcards as well?
Sounds fun. Finally some other post in the mailbox than tax letters
I'm in.
BTW, a Christmas card is also possible?

Great to have you on board guys! I have added you to the list. The more the merrier, and nice to see some new participants too besides the more experienced DPE'ers!
@Harm: You are about right. However, there is no official rule for the picture to be taken during this DPE, but it has its charme. Also, different cards are encouraged, but not mandatory. (I used to send two different cards only which was more convienent in the printing order). X-mas cards may be a bit late (or early if you send in mid September ). And we do have a https://www.dyxum.com/dforum/christmas-2020_topic139023.html - yearly thread for X-mas wishes too

We will communicate the sendinglist shortly after the deadline for the subscription, and the fun can start after that. There is no official timeline , film shooters may take a bit longer too to get their prints flying.
The countries can be found in the memberprofiles (visible for members only)

I've always been a "print at home" participant. I just got an Epson EcoTank ET-8500, replacing an XP-960. I'm not sure these are global model numbers. I'm very happy with these printers' results.
It's super quick for me to print my 4x6s here, then use "postcard backs" that I bought on Amazon (and previously THE2BUDS website).
I'm really looking forward to sending and receiving cards soon.

I'm very happy with these printers' results. | At least that model is listed on Epson's Finnish language pages, so probably the model is available globally. The specs of that printer looks quite impressive, if I was looking for a new printer that or the A3+ sister model ET-8550 could be a strong contender. But alas, I'll stick with my colour laser for time being, despite that it is no photo printer and I haven't recently done much photo printing myself.
And I think I'll continue to Posti's online card printing and mailing service also this year since I still haven't found an alternative printing service where I could order a set of postcards with different images, only batches of 10+ cards with the same image. The downside is still that I cannot handwrite any of the texts on the backside.

@Hezu, yes, I am enjoying my ET-8500. If I had more room here, I'd get the ET-8550 for the bigger print options. I print mostly 4x6 (usually around this time of year , but with these new "tank" printers, I will print bigger now since it is more economical to print.

OK, let's go! Here is the final list.
I did my best to maximize the geographical spread. Also, I looked at last year's list to avoid overlap. However, some overlap of geographical buckets and last year as sender or receiver was unavoidable.
The idea is to send cards to the 5 people BELOW you on the list (wrapping the list if you are close to the bottom). For example: #6 will be sending postcards to #7, #8, #9, #10 and #11. At the end of the list, we will just roll forward to #1. So #17 will send a card to #18, #19, #20, #1 and #2.
To make this happen each person should PM his postal address to 5 people ABOVE themself on the list. For example #3 should PM his postal address to #2, #1, #20, #19 and #18. Don't post your address here!!
One additional request is to write the date on your card. It's hard to tell when some of the cards were sent since the postmarks can be non-existent or illegible.
And if you have more than 5 cards available then just announce it in this thread. History has learned that there are always volunteers to get one of those via a PM with their address.
When PMing your postal address please mind its formatting - put it in exactly same format as expected by your post office: different countries use different formatting and it can be painful to make sure that all is done correctly.
BTW, the unspoken agreement is that postal addresses exchanged by PMs will be used solely for the purpose of Dyxum Postards Exchange. Please mind privacy of fellow Dyxumers!

I have sent my address to the five people on my list and already received five addresses to which I shall be sending postcards to. Big thanks to Fred for organising this year's exchange. I think this is great fun and just one of the features that make this forum so wonderful.
If I recall correctly I have to order a minimum of 10 postcards so I'll have some spares. I'll keep a couple just in case some of the ones I send don't get delivered and then open up a list for anyone who'd like an extra one from me. It will be first come first served!

Sent to 5, received from 5.
The game is on!
Indeed, a magnificent thanks to Fred for organizing this.
Maybe I'll make some more cards. If so, please drop me a line if you might want one. First come, first served.

Nice to see the energy here!
My first DPE was back in 2010 and I have kept every card that I have received. I need to check to see if I skipped any of these challenges.
One request ... please write the date on your card. It's hard to tell when some of the cards I have received were sent since the postmarks can be non-existent or illegible. (Fred, in the future, we should update the "rules" to recommend this.)
I can't wait to send and receive!

Thanks all for the kind words. Fortununately organising this is not too onorous.
I am happy with the 20 participants, although I had put the bar a bit higher for myself. However, the level of energy immediately after the kick off is overwhelming and rewarding !

I joined the first year after I joined as forum member in 2017 and participated ever since. Just looked through all teh cards earlier this week which was good fun too.
I will amend the rules in case anyone will copy paste next year.
Another suggestion for a new rule came via a PM from Roger: Everyone has to send a card to the organiser. I like that rule too ;-)

I have tried 3 postcard printers so far - Snapfish would't allow me to put text on the back (title of picture and a bit of explanation), Zazzle allowed me to do that but promised delivery within 9-18 days - so I went to Funky Pigeon and made one as a test, should be here tomorrow. If I don't find the print too dreadful I shall do the other four.

For those looking for a post card system, I use https://www.amazon.com/Post-Pix-Stick-Photo-Postcards-Romar/dp/B0061QO92W/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=post+pix+postcards&qid=1632305054&sr=8-1 - these . Just print a 4x6 and stick on the back - very easy - and leaves you in control of the printing.

Fred,
Are you sure? When I use the link it states "In Stock" and I was able to place them in my cart. Maybe the link/source/availability changes for non U.S. locations. Perhaps a different source will work outside of the U.S. (if my assumption is correct about the problem you see).
Roger
Edit: I did not actually order. I have cards left over from last year.

I use these https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CRNY4MS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 - postcard sticky backs from Photgrapher's Edge (via Amazon).
I'm still working through the sticky backs I bought from THE2BUDS from long ago, but they no longer sell them at their site.
The ones that Roger links to are available to me ... must be a regional thing.
With luck, I will print and send by this weekend. In the meantime, work gets in the way.

Looking through the postcards I have received in prior DPE campaigns. 70+ of them! Wow.
I keep most in Itoya 4x6 portfolio books that hold 24 cards. About 1/3 of the cards I have received have been non-standard sizes, so they sit loose.
I'm looking to seeing my new postcard arrivals.

That's a good find, Fred, but I suspect postage for us will be very high - €9.95 to the rest of Europe (ex Benelux and DE) and €19.95 for 'outside' Europe. I suspect our dear leaders have pushed us (in the UK) into the latter category. But to spend €2 on labels and up to 10x that amount on P&P is not really viable ... So the search is on for a UK supplier.
On Amazon we have these https://www.amazon.co.uk/Herma-7758-Postcard-Label-Pack/dp/B00SWJUAC4 - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Herma-7758-Postcard-Label-Pack/dp/B00SWJUAC4 , but these are pricey for a pack of 10.
