Just for starters -- its an old shot but most of you will not have seen it.
Used the 85mm f1.4 (Exif included).

Well... I'd think about changing angle, it would change photo quality drastically...
Because new topic was started and I just put some pics to the old one, I'l also put two pics to the new one :P
A bit more rare species, sorry for bad IQ...

I am just an opportunist bird shooter (if they look nice and are near enough they get clicked) so my specimens aren't as exotic... but they're still birds nonetheless!
Taken with the beercan, of course :-)

Since all the topics I was involved in got closed down, I thought I'd post some pictures instead!
These aren't in the same vein as above, but are birds -
Firstly, a couple of orphanned baby wren shots from a while back. I'm involved with a local wildlife hospital ( http://www.lowermosswood.org.uk/ - Lower Moss Wood ), and a friend does a lot of small animal care:
These were taken hand-held indoors by window light, so struggle for both depth of field and sharpness (the latter largely because of subject movement). Dynax 7D, 800 ASA and Tamron 90/2.8 at f5.6 and 1/30th second. Wouldn't have been possible at all without the antishake!
More recently, in good light outdoors, a juvenile pigeon must have fallen out of a nest in my garden, but seems to be managing OK:
Alpha 100, Minolta 24-85 at 85 end
(I'm not sure the colour balance is correct on these - currently using an unprofiled monitor that looks wrong!)

Good shots everyone. The ones hand feeding the baby remind of a time my kids raised an abandoned sparrow. It earned the name "turd bird" for obvious reasons :) Well the hummers will be leaving here in a few days and I finally got a couple of shots that are somewhat presentable. These little birds are tough to shoot and I had to crop these pretty heavily.

Wow, lots of great shots here.
Photoclassic - welcome to Dyxum. Nice photos. I especially liked the Juvenile African Pygmy Kingfisher - beautiful bird and a very nice capture.
David_S - The male ruby-throated hummingbird is great - I haven't had much luck with hummers so far.
Here is a hawk that came in to our yard to feast on a pigeon. He was nice enough to sit there on a low branch long enough for me to go get my 300/4 and take some photos. He let me get pretty close.
Both taken with A100 300mm @ f4

This pigeon was breeding at about 4 m high in a pine tree in our garden.
Got out the kitchen ladder, climbed to the top and shot this one handheld with my big beercan fully extended f 5.6 and 1/125 at 1600 ISO. It was quite hard to get a clear view through the branches and pine needles. Also a bit of noise, but overall I think still a very usable picture. I shot several more, but this was the best, especially the sharpness of the eyes.

I've spent a bit of time out in the sunshine lately. Here are a few from the past week or so:
Magpie (with a spot of afternoon tea)
Great cormorant (a bit of sunbaking)
Black Swan and Cygnet (missed the focus on the first - oops!)
Spoonbill (I had to stalk him forever - very shy)
Welcome Sparrow (I can only shoot them stationary - TOO FAST)
Great Egret (not a great pose!)
Pink and Grey Galah (a bit wind-swept)
Rainbow lorikeets (lots of shadows and highlights applied)

I think you meant 'swallow'.
Nice shots - I particularly like the cormorants.

Dilettante - of course, you are correct. It is a swallow. Thanks for the correction.
Well done everyone on some nice birds. Keep 'em coming.

Tamron 200-500, Not often considered much for their beauty, the Eastern Wild Turkey was referred to as a "noble bird" by Ben Franklin. I snapped several shots of a small flock crossing my property in rural Tennessee. They look amazing in flight.

In July I was in the Zhalong Reserve at a side trip organised by the Chinese State Forest Administration. The reserve is home to a large population of the rare red-crowned crane (plus lots of other wildlife).
I got some pictures of some very young cranes-here's one:

Thanks- I'm not familiar with most European and North American species. It's nice to get the species identified (alongside the great looking shots).

Thanks for the help. I would have to look up the bird. I'm no birding expert. I do know that bird ruined a beautiful sunset pic with a turtle swimming by in the background a few weeks ago. It started beaking off when my 2 sec timer ended. I didnt see it as i was watching over the camera on a 200mm shot. Arrgg. Subsequently i took his leg to beat him with. Hes more docile now.

These were shot in Italy during our vacation. A couple of deteriorating ship hulls were a hideout for several birds when we came by on our bicycles. All shot with a Tamron 28-200 @ 200 mm. Unfortunately I didn't bring a longer lens with me that day however in the end I like the way I've shot them with some surroundings. Let me know if you disagree.

Lots of great shots here !
Got this one yesterday, not too happy with it, but it's part of getting aquainted with new gear. Shot freehand with A100 / Sigma APO 400mm 5.6, sport program 1/800s, f8, auto ISO. Very cloudy day.
