Brettania, Where did your very interesting blue flower go? Do you know what it was?
The asexual flowers resemble those of our wild viburnums in the US but they are white. I suppose it could be a Hydrangea.
Napo, I like the passing rose. It's a too often overlooked subject and has a different sort of beauty.

Hi Bard -- definitely a hydrangea and they come in a variety of colours but mainly that soft blue or white. The soil's acid/alkaline balance determines colour.
Found the pic in among some shots dating from some time ago and mistakely originally though it was one of mine. But I couldn't for the life of me remember where I had taken it. Then I looked in the Exif and that said pic was taken by an Alpha Sweet 100, and I have a 7D.
It was, I now recall, issued as a PR shot by Sony. It was taken with a 70-200 SSM which I have.
That left me red-faced and no option but to delete.

Thank you, I'm humbled and honored. I'll start by saying that my Black background is a piece of Black Fleece, I've heard that Black velour/velvet works good too. I place my Flowers about 6-7 inches away from the background. Then for my light source it varies as to what time of day I am shooting. During a daylight shoot, I use my vertical blinds to control direction or intensity of the light coming through my North facing dining room window. I use a small piece of white Posterboard on the other side as a reflector.
If I'm shooting at night, I have a 75Watt Halogen lamp in a 10inch Bowl reflector with diffuser attached as the main source about a foot and a half above the flowers, with the white posterboard as a reflector again. Sometimes, I do use a 25W Halogen in a 7inch Reflector Bowl for fill.
I have the camera on a Tripod and then basically play with the Aperture to determine what type of DoF I want on the pictures. Sometimes I use the shutter release cable, and sometimes I use the 2 second timer. I shoot in RAW and then set WB in Post. then PP according to taste. Hope that helps.

All the roses reminded me of these. 100 years ago Cornell University reccomended planting rose hedges as cattle fencing. They have mean thornes and are very dense. Today our central NY fields are full of them and the smell in June is awesome.

Unfortunately I do not own a Tamron 90 which would be ideal for these sorts of closeups. I do however have a D7i which is the best tool for this sort of work available to me.
I used a polariser to tame the overall reflection which allowed the interesting reflections around the edge to be clearly visible. I think this image would probably be better cropped square.

Hmmm, I meant, it looks like it's in water or some 'plastic bubble' or something... :)
It's a very inter. effect as it looks comming up from under water...
Yea, I think a square crop would work too...
Im had a DiMage 7 before (well still have) but it keep getting broke on me, something with the power, to bad as it was a real nice camera... :(

Thankyou everyone for being so kind
well i use a 32" light box (one of those nylon square box things) its just like a big square that i sit the flowers inside then take shots from the open side. it came with a black background that you stick up to the back and drape over the bottom, and it also came with two small lights on a tripod that i use on eiter side to get the lighting right, and becasue the light is passing through the nylon it defuses to make a nice even shadow.
as for using the thing, i set it up on a table so its tall enough to use a tripod with, then i just set the lights up how i want them and snap away, some poeple use daylight instead of the lamps aswel.
it was the greatest investment i ever made for my photography and it wasnt even that expensive
heres what it looks like
also you can find heaps of DIY ones on the net which look like they would do the job fine.
i would be happy to answer any more questions
thankyou and enjoy

Nice B&W, Dave, and Nice ones Rosie. Cam, love the yellow! Andrew, the water lilly has inspired me to share the one Water lilly that I have. BUT I've given this one some extra attention with "Digital Manipulation". Hope that's OK with the Mods.
Had discovered "Out of Bounds" in July, and done it once for a digital Manipulation contest. This is my second OOB picture to stay in practice.

To mark my 7000th post I revisited one of my all-time favourites.
This time all the hard PP was done in Bibble, with a little extra lick of sharpening, the crop and downsizing in PSPX2.
Enjoy.

I was outside for this shot. It's a reject from the One Prime, partly because Bibble was not handling it well. Tried PSPX2's RAW conversion, applied some additional OOF and it is now "passable".

Didn't know whether to post in 'Flies' or 'Flowers'. The fly landed on the rose bud for about 5 seconds. This was the best of the two shots I got. That said, I was shooting a cat at the time...
I perhaps should crop it.

Beautiful orchid brettania.
Here's another Daisy for you:
And these are the berries that grow out of the beautiful little yellow flower you posted in the week 50 challenge:
And this is another flower detail (I think of a Gladiolus)
All shot with the Tamron 70-300 LD Macro.

Dang -- someone else who does daisies (and a very good one at that). I like #1 and #3, and find the third informational -- I will have to check mine again and see if they have developed little "apples". That lens is giving good macro detail.
The orchid shot is interesting as I have passed it over a couple of times because the thumb indicates it is quite dark. Then today I used Bibble and it was nearly on the button when opened from the RAW -- I think I gave it an extra half stop.

Yes, I like the Tamron 70-300 LD Macro a lot, despite the not so good reviews it gets here on Dyxum. My KM 100/2.8 D is better but the Tamron gives a different perspective at 300 mm and still pulls out good detail. Usually I give a bit more "clarity" and a bit more sharpening and then certainly for downsized web publishing gives excellent results.
I don't have Bibble but only use Lightroom. What I usually do after importing is adjust white point and black point and then play a bit with the brightness slider. Most of the time that will reveal if the shot's worth a salvaging try or not.

All taken with Sigma 70-200 f4 and some combination of closeup filters and flash.
Burst of flash from Sony 56 off to the right to get the shadows as I wanted.
Orchid of some sort.
Not sure why this is so soft... possibly the closeup filters I used?
