Wow! I can't believe I won one of these contests, considering all the great images that have won before. Thanks to those who voted for my picture, and comiserations to the other great finalists.

May I take this opportunity to apologise in advance to everyone for the times they have to look at my ugly mug when they go to the dyxum homepage.

Rob, Congratulations. Lighting in your shot is excellent. If it makes you feel better, when your shot comes up I won't be concentrating on your "ugly mug", I'll be appreciating the careful control of shadow detail. Well done!

Congrats Rob
Just saw it on the 'home' screen on dyxum and it looks more than worthy to stand up against all the other wonderful photos we see there

Thanks, Brian, and everyone else! I feel that I still have much to learn about photography, but winning this DPC certainly helped to boost my confidence that I am getting better.

Most of my shots are grabbed when I see what looks to be a good composition whilst walking around, but of necessity self portraits require a bit of planning, and I was pleased to get this one to turn out more or less as I had envisaged.
