The Bridge of Sighs, Venice, so named because as prisoners were escorted to their execution over this enclosed bridge linking their cell to the place of execution in the next building, the view through the windows above was the last sight of the outside world they would ever see.

@brettania - thanks!

I'll need to fix those specular highlights inside the bowl, I guess, though you can hardly see them on my laptop (old LCD, poor contrast!). I'm not imagining them, am I? (Just inside the right-hand border next the spoon). Eh. Easily fixed though.

EDIT: fixed original post with corrected version of the picture (also removed a hot pixel)

That's what I thought as well, which is why I took this shot.
It's a border pole between the two towns which are now brought together (on the other side it said "Beverwijk").

If you look on the website of Museum Kennemerland the full name of the former town seems to have been "Wijk aan Zee en Duin".

Your description is absolutely correct

The view was fantastic, but my legs were shaking horribly during the whole stay. Not found of hights
