Starting a new thread as requested - here are some shots from a visit to Portsmouth's Historic Dockyard last Saturday.
HMS Victory - a tricky pano made from 4 shots at 18mm
Detail of rigging
Admiral's Cabin
Lower Deck
Mary Rose - Henry VIII's favourite ship.
Sank in 1545, raised in 1979, now being conserved in a massive chamber full of polyethylene glycol spray.
Difficult to shoot through murky glass windows, in dim light - but by bracing the camera (and thanks to SSS) I managed to get some handheld shots that worked.

1.0s ISO100

Here's my "Respite" sailing on southern Lake Huron, Thanksgiving weekend. Sony a900, original Minolta 20 2.8.
Another view, from the stern...
And being hauled out for winter a week later, this past weekend (a sad day). This one with the Minolta 28-135.

This is technically not a KM shot, yet it is in a way :-)
It's a view taken from a helicopter of my sailboat, "Respite" underway in the 250 statute mile race from Port Huron to Mackinac Island (the length of Lake Huron) this past summer. It was quite a wild ride!
I acquired a print of the shot on the island, and copied it while underway as my wife and I were cruising later. I'm the guy in the blue shirt in the middle of the cockpit. Here it is:
And here was my first attempt to copy-shoot the print while underway, with the 7D and 24-105 lens. Hmmm... must have inadvertently turned the anti-shake off.
Here is a link to the story of our wild ride on my "Respite" website for those interested... click on the link at top of the homepage for a "Mac" story:

A photog from the U.K. directed me to the unique history of this ship. At my 54 years, I can recall some of it's other name plates over the decades and when it used to be painted white on black, BTW.
I've also chased her sister (brother/husband) ship the Paul Tregurtha in my jet-boat(s) up/down the river some time back.

LOL, this thread is growing like a mushroom today:
DavidB, lovely colors but I would show the wharf as a total sihouette or with more shadow detail.
oldguy, I think the sepia conversion fits well, but I find there's too much unplanned interferance between the boat on the right and some of the masts/ropes there. It's also seriously tilting to the left, so soon all the water will be gone
AnneM, Absolutely love the Feluccas, very smart composition with the ropes in the foreground supporting the diagonals of the sails of the boats behind.. I find St Tropez a little busy. Dry and Tavira are nice shots.
jdekeck, you overcame the high DR quite well, good inside shot. I would only crop off the people standing on the left, but that's the only nit.

Pegelli,
Don't know how person can crop a photo, convert to sepia, review post, etc. and not straighten the horizon. Thanks for noticing. Cropped, straightened and sloppily cloned out some rigging. Better?

pegelli, thanks for your comment on my photo, previous page. I have replaced it with one where the shadows are opened up 25%, and it's a definite improvement!

@ oldguy, at your service , I have the same problem. I am much more likely to soo both the good and the bad aspects of someone else's picture than my own. Somehow I think that people like us are too attached to the shots we take ourselves, we just see what we thought we saw when we pressed the shutter and I overlook obvious aspects. Btw, I like your version 2 much better, less distractions and the water will stay in . Like your next shot as well as a moody evening view, allthough it seems a bit soft, both foreground and background.
DavidB, Your picture gets blocked by our work network filter, so I'll take a look tonight when I'm home and let you know. I'm honored you guys think my comments are good enough to do something with it. When I became Alpha Eyes I was not an expert critic (and still am not) and these interactions help me further develop these skills, so thank you for bearing with me.
AnneM, some smashing B&W conversions again, Especially the Barge Bow and the Rotterdam Harbour have a "Cas Ooorthuis" type atmosphere to them due to their square cropping and content, allthough Cas' pictures were usually a bit darker and less contrasty.

For the vintage yacht buffs:
These 3 shots of Gloriana, built by the Logan Bros, launched 1892
The Logans were one of the most prolific, and probably the best, yacht builders in auckland from about the 1870's through to I think the 1930's. As far as I can ascertain there are still about a dozen of their yachts still sailing.
1
2 I liked this one especially for the silhouette
3
This one converted to b&w and treated to give an old style look. Did I succeed?

Anne, loooove the Felucca's. Great lines and symmetry. One of those we always strive for on holiday. But crop or clone out the aerial?
print me a 16x20 and post to me
It could go in Diagonals, and could win IMO - if you shot it this week

DavidB: nice improvement of your shot opening up the shadows. Provides much more context to the whole.
Howard, Your B&W is a good effort for an "old style". Looks like the fixer isn't flushed out long enough and started to darken/smudge all the light zones of the pic . Very much like your dinghies as sardines shot, could use a tad more pop to make it even stand out more.

Pegelli - Thanks for comments. The washed out look comes I think by reducing clarity in LR. An interesting slider to use.
For the punch, I thought I had gone as far as I should but when i get a few spare moments I'll play around with it a bit more in LR or PSE and see and update.

Obviously not mine, though I wish. ;) This ship has sailed all the way from Sweden to China and back. Götheborg III is the name of the ship, it is a replica of the East India Company ship with the same name that sank outside Gothenburg in 1745.

I've enjoyed all your pictures, and that has encouraged me to post at least one :) This is the WindStar doing its transit thru the Panama Canal, got the picture while working in a moving train while passing next to the Canal at that moment, so, I guess the antishake worked just perfect taking into consideration the vibrations of the train, the lack of a tripod or monopod, and that I, myself shake just enough LOL. Comments and critics are more than welcome, as I'm newbie to the DSLR world :)
