Does this survive the snow and become a tree to be hugged a few years hence ?

@badlydrawnroy: Was your first shot a focus stack?

Here's a crepe myrtle that I took this morning:

A100; Sony 50mm macro; ISO 100; f10.0; 1/125th; 14 exposures stacked with Helicon Focus

There's a little "ghosting" along the top edge of the branch that I may clone out later.

Cheers... Brian

Some trees it would take several people to hug. Redwoods from Muir Woods, north of San Fransisco. For scale, the white spot toward the end of the pathway is an adult.

wross, nice conversion. Might have been even more lonely by making the crop more square (broader/less tall with the same island/tree size).

svjetlana, I like your fist one. The crooked tree contrasts nicely with the straight lantern and the high key conversion is very appropriate. Second one has weird colors, but somehow still works well for me. Composition is rule of thirds by the book, which really helps the picture stand.

kleptolux, a very nice picture and the conversion is spot on in my mind. You've understood the zone system very well . The mood created by all the shades of grey getting lighter as you move up in the pic and the contrast of the very dark tree off center sit very well together.

One minor knit. If you would have cropped a tiny bit higher (and maybe a sliver from the bottom to keep the same aspect ratio) since then the white cloud left/top wouldn't have touched the border. Maybe I also would have cloned out the bird in there (first I thought my monitor had a piece of gunk on it, but it moved when scrolling )

Here's my failed lone tree project. . . .
I kinda like it anyway, which is why I'm posting it, but every time I look at the picture I can't help but want to move the shadow to the left and the window to the right and though that's maybe possible with some hardcore PPing, I think that would require skills I've yet to acquire.

@aa: nice IR shot. But it may not be pushed or PP'd far enough to really get the IR effect. Seems like this could have been achieved with a mono conversion...

@jagged: I like the simplicity of your shot. But I think I would have cloned out (or move at shooting I guesss - easy to say after) that bush or whatever that is on the right side of the picture...

Here is one from me, shot on film earlier this year:

Very unusual picture David, I like the composition and the fish effect but somehow the B&W (can't say conversion because it's film) looks strange to me. Can't put my finger on it exactly but I think it has to do with the dark foreground with some detail in it, but overall lacking contrast. Not sure how to otherwise describe it. On the other hand the sky and clouds are very much on. Hope you get what I mean, if not never mind

Thanks a lot Pieter for your thoughts and taking the time to comment, I think I know what you mean, I have sorta the same feelings. I am still learning how to process B/W films... (both chemically and PS-wise)... next time will try to get a better output

Thanks pegelli!
Next set: small islet of Puhtu. An attraction in its own right is Puhtu’s 24-metre tall, 360-year-old pine tree. Its circumference, when measured 1.3 metres from the ground, is 3.74 metres.

Near the centre of Puhtu there also stands a mighty oak tree with a circumference of 4.8 metres and a height of 24 metres.

Very nice composition fastson, even the little branch sticking in from the right top has an essential function to support the contours of the dead tree stump. If you're very good at PP and masking you might burn in the sky and light grass in the background a bit to lower the DR but that's just a very minor nit.

Thanks.

I actually did some burning (a little bit at the top) and dodging (lower left) with the picture, however I suck at masking so I only made some minor edits.

This really is a tree to hug: a Christmas Tree, standing in a Hotel where we spent some days, decorated with wishing cards of children who live in institutions because they lost their parents, were maltreated by their parents, whose parents are in prison, etc. etc. They may put their wishes on these cards and these are then displayed on this tree and the visitors of the hotel are asked to fill out one of these cards and give a donation so that these children may get their Christmas presents:

@ Robokeh: to talk with a certain form of internet speak: the LOL factor on your image is quite high! No, seriously, the fact that you got 2 goats rubbing up at the tree at once is just great. Love the touches of sunlight which accompany it.

@darosa: another great shot of that tree.

@brian33: Thanks for your nice comment! I love a little LOL in life so I guess that's what some of my images contain too :-)

@Bob J: I like the detailed shots too!
