Thanks and well done! But I was really hoping for a male doing his mating display.
OTOH I am aware that normally the lighting conditions do not favour a still photographer at such times.

This beautiful Red Shouldered Hawk relentlessly hunted the pond today and got two Moorhen chicks. The first chick he carried over to the tree on my patio and had the young chick with its head still looking around when he landed. That only lasted a couple seconds as he quickly ripped it off while the wife and I sat watching.

They make a unique gurgling sound during mating season as they chase off intruders from their nesting space. They always have these beautiful fine feathers on display and their beak turns red.

Brandy, some great action shots of Welcome Swallows waaaay back on P.3 (this thread is definitely moving too fast to keep up!). Close up and sharp. The great light obviously helped, but you must have stalked them pretty well too!
Here's another very elusive little Aussie bird, the Bassian Thrush. These guys are incredibly shy, and habituate dense, wet forest. You will only infrequently see them in small patches of open ground near their cover, and never in sunlight. Their camouflage is a triumph of natural selection.
Hence this shot - handheld, 1/40 sec at ISO400 with the A200 and 420mm combo.

Missed so much. There are loads of great pictures in 23... from the last couple of pages and more distant memory. Certainly I've forgotten a couple.
Kirk... goslings; bigjt... starlings (for me you can post more, as long as it does something different); pavel... beeeaters; geardown...Currawong; Frank... Caspian Tern (wow); Mike...Snowy Egret (fabulous bird); aa... kestrel; le_rez.
Here are a few from two weeks ago and from this morning. Still visiting the Openbill Storks occasionally, but a lot of them have gone home now and the chicks are mostly big enough to fly. There were a lot of chick deaths (pesticide or just normal I don't know) but the locals have been pretty tolerant of the birds (other places they would have shot them,I'm afraid to say) and so hopefully the local birds will stay and the migrants will come back to join them in November.... by which time I have to find a little dugout canoe so I can get closer.
Unfortunately the nests were too far from the path and too high for many pictures of the chicks - needed another 200mm (and better weather). These nests were closest to the path.
Adults
Juveniles (grey feathers - not just bad exposure )
Juvenile delinquent
That is definitely enough for now... will post the mature chicks and the other birdies later.

Going for the "Awe" crowd, a couple more gosling shots. There was a group of about 20 goslings clustered around an adult pair. I had never heard of a single pair having so many goslings...

Your spelling suggests that your subconscious mind understands the reason people like these shots better than your conscious mind.

badlydrawnroy - yours would make a great duck stamp.
Here's a juvenile black crowned night heron. First one I've seen while there was enough light to photograph.

Good set Pelican, liked no4. What happened next, a quick flip in the air and down the throat?
These Cape Barren Geese let you get really close...
But only so close before...
Had good shutter speed for the first two but caught out for the BIF!!

Today i came back from a 5 day trip to Texel, a island near the Netherlands. There were a lot of birds there, including this common eider on a nest. She was just sitting there and didn't go. A200 with minolta 75-300 and a monopod.
