I like the low perspective Reflekt. It was certainly worth getting down "low and dirty" to achieve the reult. The background is magic. Mike - I like your low perspective as well. Looks like "low perspective" is catching on!

Guys, all the images on this page are excellent. I'm hanging out for clear skies... however, we do need the rain, so in the meantime I'll enjoy your works.

Good work on this page guys.

Stork is indeed nice pavel, you kept very good feather detail in the white and blacks. Pelicans are nice as well, the last one shows that older bodies with kit lenses can produce very good pictures when handled by skilled and experienced shooters.

No need to be bashful pat, I wish some of mine were as nice.

Llew, especially like your one-legged owl. I think these pics deserve to be posted bigger!

Yesterday we went to the Belgian coast where I for the first time tried my new Sony 1.4x paired with the 200/2.8 HS. Most BIF's were not good (operator error, nothing to do with my gear) but some others came out quite nice (I think). C&C welcome, as I have a lot to learn in this field.

The only BIF that came out OK (a bit of a crop):

Juvenile looking for food:

On the look-out:

100% crop, no processing/sharpening of this shot:

Pretty happy with the combo so far, much better IQ than with the 2x. Need tons more practice though

@Pavel: You do well with whatever equipment is in your hands. A100+75300kit for pelican and A900+600/4+1.4xTC for cormorant. I particularly like the composition and detail in your first cormorant shot.

@alphafreak: Great job with the egret! I noted some well-deserved complements from your Flickr post. Welcome to Dyxum and the Bird thread.

@everyone: very nice shots! Keep'm comin'!

Roy, love the first one, you can "hear" it sing looking at the picture.

Also all the flowers/branches in the background really help the composition and fill the frame very well.

Hope these work as I'm on my wife's laptop so I have none of my usual checks and balances, even a slight tilt of the screen and they look out of whack!!

Here's a few from my trip to Alaska.

EK

Arctic tern. This one normally migrates north in the spring, but one group of them has settled around Mendenhal Glacier near Juneau.

A300, 70-300G, a small boat, and a bay opening to the Pacific...
Horned Puffin

The jury is still out on these, but I suspect they are the Common Guillemot

EK, your Tern is wonderful! I really like the transparency and detail in the feathers against the white background. Great job.

Nice shots all.

@RAS, are you able to identify the birds for us?

@Brandy, that powerline looks vaguely familiar. Encouraging to know that the little blighters ar still where they are supposed to be.

@geardown, the first appears to be a very young sparrow with considerable down left to shed. I haven't a clue to the second. At first I thought it was just another sparrow but all my bird books have offered up more new possibilities than answers. Can anyone help?

I'm adding a side shot of the second bird. Anyone know what this is?

A flight of swallows roost around a dilapidated antiques store (or infest, according to the owner) that I stop at going to and from my parent' place in Florida. I've been watching them for some time, and the chicks have finally hatched.

Good work guys. That's a nice shoveller Pavel. Brandy - I'm so envious of you getting great shots of the wren. I have to go miles to find one and even then have trouble getting close enough for a half decent shot.

Here was one highlight on an otherwise dull and overcast day here on the beachfront. Spotted these two Red Tailed Hawks perched on a rooftop three houses down from ours and the Mockinbirds were very upset about the whole situation.

With the a700 and 100-400APO at full reach and on a monopod.

1-The one to the left was the focus of attention as they kept divebombing and picking at him/her.

2-And he was starting to get aggravated with the pests.

3-One of the local, vocal instigators.

4-So off he went. But not far though.

5-Leaving it's compadre behind and defenseless to a blindside attack

6

7

8

9

10-There was no escaping the mob. Those Mockingbirds are everywhere, they are the State Bird after all.

11

12

13-He went back to his buddy and they both took off from there.

Brandy, that's a superb sequence of Variegated Fairy Wren shots - I can hardly ever even find the buggers, let alone get shots of that quality. I note that several of them were taken at less than max focal length of your rig. I (or Frankman or Pavel) could not have got them without moving back, by which time the moment may well have been gone. This is one advantage of the new G zooms that those of of us shooting with Primes miss out on. And I don't think anyone could argue that you're giving up anything in practical IQ. So I guess the trade-off between the two really comes down to focussing speed vs flexibility.

Anyway, great series - and loved the Tawny Frogmouths as well.
