Then again I could use the search facility and find http://www.dyxum.com/dforum/a-sip-of-nectar-in-the-morning_topic50460_post550412.html#550412 - this post in November. There goes that nomination for the next Exhibition.

I have to say that the earlier post deserved better recognition.

This chap landed on our kitchen window as I was unpacking my latest toy (tamron 90mm). He seemed quite content for me to snap away. I was pleased to get a different angle from the normal bug shot. I don't usually see them from underneath....

Also, I think I need to wash my kitchen windows. Thanks for looking!

Cheers

I think it's probably http://ukmoths.org.uk/show.php?id=965 - Pyrausta aurata , or maybe http://ukmoths.org.uk/show.php?id=5053 - Pyrausta purpuralis

( http://ukmoths.org.uk/index.php - ukmoths.org is a pretty handy site for moth identification)

Some lovely shots here recently!

@alpha_in_exile: I think your hummingbird hawk-moth is actually a Broad-bordered Bee Hawk-moth Hemaris fuciformis or some similar species. (The transparent wings are the clue).

@Copperhead: very fine pictures with #1 as my favourite but the other two are close behind

Here is a peacock butterfly unfortunately sitting on the ground and not on a beautiful flower but it refused to budge!

Taken last week at Potsdam Biosphere. Only managed a couple of shots before the lens was too fogged up due to humidity... Hope no permanent damage. Didn't consider that before going in...
