@Mowak: Beautiful bird. Looks like it could use some sharpening.
@pdave: nice portrait. I almost expect the catchlight from a beauty dish . Excellent detail.
@ahmet: Welcome to Dyxum, Ahmet. I like the composition and angle of the head.
@mpb: Nice shot, Mark. I normally like subjects looking into the frame, but the counterbalance of the log works well.

On the first day outing with my new A850
On the boardwalk in Kemah (Texas). Lots of these around there but this one just started screaming when I came closer. All the others flew off so with only a 24-105 with me this trip I didn't get too many good bird shots:

Great exposure on the Grackle there on the boardwalk.
I sure miss Kemah and Seabrook, I spent a couple decades just a few miles away in League City.
I was gonna recommend Maribelles there in Seabrook but a quick check on GoogleEarth looks like it's gone. A victim of Hurricane Ike I suppose.

Robert, didn't know that. We lived in League City 3 years ('93 - '95). If you haven't been to Kemah a few years you wouldn't recognise it. From a couple of restaurants and a parking lot it's now changed into a recreation area, amusement park and also has a big hotel.

I had better luck today and I was able to snap two pictures of a red shouldered hawk before it flew off. Both images are slightly cropped

Nice lookin hawk Serdar A.
A pair of Peregrine Falcons visited on the weekend. They are quick in the air and hard to track. Cropped and some heavy PP due to the bright cloud cover and little light under the bird.

These shots were taken with my A900 and the 70-400G west of Houston, TX right off of I-10 at a bird rookery.
This bird flew up into the tree next to me, broke a branch off the tree and then flew off with it. Pretty crazy!

Hey, Schinke, nice set! I'd love to have a garden like yours (though I'd compete with the birds for caqui fruits).
#7 and #9 stand out for me.
