I'm very suprised that a rescue boat doesn't have a prop guard on it.

Sailing on the Norfolk Broads:

A700, beercan

I'd started thinking my beercan wasn't very sharp, but this outing made me fall in love with it again. A tripod, f/8 a bit of light, and it's fantastic!

G'day All,

These are just a few photo's that I took at an annual Powerboat Race last weekend. Bundy Thunder is held in Bundaberg each November in central Queensland. This year they were down on entrants of the Unlimited class and the F1's, due to major accidents of those classes earlier this year, and recent flooding that prevented other entrants from arriving.

1. Airborne

2. BadBrew

3. Desperado

4. F1 McKenzie

5. F1 McKenzie 2

6. Head Turner

7. Kwiktrip to Trouble

8. Midnight Mist 3

9. Sacrifice

10. Sacrifice Bondage

11. Solace 3

12. Two Bad

13. Ultra 4

Hope you enjoy these.
Regards,
Craig

I'm having a bit of a sad week, what with the harrier's final flight ( http://www.dyxum.com/dforum/sad-day-for-military-aviation_topic70760_page1.html - see here ), so for this thread I would like to offer my shot of HMS Intrepid circa 1970 when I served aboard her, here in Singapore:

(I had a minolta camera then but cannot remember the model)

and here in Liverpool last year:

Still, she had a great life of 40 years, was a hero of the Falklands war (the surrender papers were signed on board) and I spent my 3 great years on board from 1969 to 1971.

(More personal reminiscences http://brianyoungphotography.blogspot.com/2009/10/blog-021-hms-intrepid-photos.html - here )

Sad to see the old war ships getting demolished, l wonder how asbestos was on and around the pipe work?

These are of a Dingy/Cat getting put back into the water, would have cost a few $$$$ to hire the crane and 4 or 5 blokes on a Saturday.

Thats chicken feed l suppose, when the boat would have cost enough.

Normand Ferking, this was during a recent rigmove and as you can see they been fishing. What we do is, we lower the grapnelhook down to aproximate depth of where we would like to hook on to the chain, and then use a ROV to check that we hook on to the right place. After this the chain is taken onboard and split. One end goes back to the rig, and the other one is buoyed off for later recovery. Apologies for not making a rigmovethread, but i did not get enough pictures.

Havila Mercury, this is after we have split the chain. One winch is connected to the anchor and goes under the ship, the chain on deck is going back to the rig. The Normand Ferking is assisting Havila Jupiter with a ROV as they hook on to their line.

Very nice pictures, its a joy following this thread.. :)

Mandobo, 4 weeks vacating in Norway sounds expensive enough :) Who knows, its happening things up north so maybe there will be more jobs for us. I think it will be mostly in the Barents-sea first, maybe later the sea outside Lofoten also will get explored for oil and gas.

Hey CC, what did Skandi Skolten do in Sweden before leaving for Galveston? I know they got a 1 year contract in the gulf of Mexico. I am leaving the Havila Mercury for a ship called KL Sandefjord, and it is of the same STX design althoug not as long and without the crane.

According to the company http://www.ittelecom.com/itinterceptor.php - website , the IT Interceptor is a cable laying ship. She really isn't ugly enough to be a dredger

@zk-cessnaguy: thanks for the information. It indeed looked like a cable layer to me, but when I used Google with the entry "IT Interceptor"
I found a site http://www.marinetraffic.com/ais/shipdetails.aspx?mmsi=31428300 - here where the type is given as dredger.
Looking again in Google I found several sites, some giving this ship as
dredger and others as cable layer
I think cable layer is indeed more probable especially when looking at the shape of the bow
