Here are some to start the new thread.
A young ruby-throated hummingbird has taken up residence on one of my tomato cages.
with occasional trips to the feed and the variety of hummer-friendly flowers in the backyard.
both with A700+70300G (exif embedded).

Hi Brandy,
That's a fantastic shot, but unfortunately, it isn't a Spinifex Pigeon. It's actually a Crested Pigeon, which has the same crest but is coloured differently. The Spinifex Pigeon is a lot more brownly coloured. It would have been awesome if this was a S.P. Still haven't seen one, but fingers crossed I will one day.
Nice Osprey shots BTW!

Bad hair day!!! Great work Stan.
A couple from me:
Chirruping Wedgebill (Psophodes cristatus) 12243
http://www.flickr.com/photos/richardhartphotography/4940661317/">
A member of the elusive Whipbird genus, the Chirruping Wedgebill is a bird that makes you work to get a picture of it. First of all, it lives only in the harsh, deep outback country of northern South Australia and far western New South Wales and Queensland. Secondly, this bird has a very advanced camera lens detector. If you are lucky enough to spot one close enough to get a shot, you definitely only have a few seconds before it disappears into the bushes. You had better hope you have the right settings already configured, because it is definitely a 'see, point, shoot, pray' job.

Red-tailed Black-Cockatoo female (Calyptorynchus banksii)

Red-tailed Black-Cockatoos are regular summer visitors to where we are staying at the moment. Fortunately, their call is a little less raucous than their screeching Sulphur-crested cousins!! Like most birds, they are a joy to have around but, as with all the Black-Cockatoos, they are a right bugger to get a good shot of!

Since you like the one of the Shrike, maybe you could give me input on which one you like better of the first one and this one where I moved just a little bit to get a different background?

Although I would be proud to claim either shot, I prefer the first one. The OOF sky in number 2 is slightly distracting, and if we were grading out of 10, it is probably worth half a point deduction over number 1.

I took a similar one a couple of weeks ago near Kalbarri in WA which I'm not sure about. Very similar colouring except around the eyes. My Simpson and Day is not much help. @Outback88, yep, that's a Singing Honeyeater.
@Brandy - you got yourself a Brown Honeyeater there. Very noisy, very active, right?

I don't really enjoy shooting caged animals, but these parrots were so dang beautiful. In preparing for the Yellowstone trip, we took the new lens (70-400G) out for a test run, to get used to it. We have a kangaroo conservatory here in Georgia. Largest population of marsupials outside of Australia.

This is one more I sat and processed today. This is a Pied Kingfisher, I shot earlier this year from a rocking boat using the Sony A700 and Tamron 200-500. I remember there was a Pro with Nikon gear with me on the same boat and he was quite impressed with the A700 after seeing this shot.

@cnb88 - The Tamron was good when the light was good . Once you had slightly overcast conditions the pictures would be very soft. I changed to the 70-400G a couple of months back and sometimes i miss the 100mm range i sacrificed.

Lovely work everyone. In particular, Vinyan - your images are excellent. Nebbor - that's a great flight shot of the owl. Very impressive given the closed conditions.
Anyway - it's been a long winter for me. Just starting to venture out again. One egret, many shots:

3.
4.
5.
Sorry - I couldn't decide on which one I liked the most, so you get the lot.

I'll go for number 2. Of course it is very similar to number 1 but I like how the right leg is raised (though the right leg forward in number 1 is of interest, too.)
I took a bunch of swan pictures yesterday, slowly going through them looking for more "gems."

Just saw this, awesome! Aren't birds landing on water just the most fascinating site to behold? If I had more time I'd be out at Boulogne every day trying to capture birds landing on the lake.
I also love your kingfisher shot on this page. I'm so used to seeing the colors of Gustav's kingfishers that it was a real surprise to see a different color (and a tasty little meal!)

These were taken at Pacific Northwest Birds of Prey a home for about 100 raptors. You have open access to the hawks and eagles and a flight demo once per day. This was my first visit even though it's only 45 minutes form were I live. Lighting wasn't that great so I think I will try again early next summer. I've attached a link to PNWB.
