Just like the 'Story behind your nickname' thread! Sometimes it gets mentioned in postings here and there, but we are curious what other people do to earn their keep.

Research manager running customer satisfaction studies for a big multi-national and general Excel guru (or sorcerer as someone in my team so eloquently put it the other week!). http://uk.linkedin.com/in/simontregidgo" rel="nofollow - linkedin
Love my photography hobby passionately and do weddings for friends and friends of friends but it just isn't enough of reliable income for me. Perhaps it's a lack of ability, perhaps it's a lack of motivation and fear of laziness when self employed or perhaps I just want to keep work and play separate. Whatever it is, I can't wait to be retired and embrace photography every minute of every day

I am an independent IT 'consultant'. I do a lot of support work, networking and training for small businesses and personal users in my area. I am also a Microsoft Access specialist, database and VBA developer who creates custom software solutions for all kinds of niches and clients all over the map.
Also I do make some of my living with my creaking but trusty A700. At least I seem to have something left over after my nasty tendency to bang up cameras and lenses.

I'm currently a stay at home Dad after being medically retired following an accident at work as a bus driver. Have had many and varied jobs in the past but I learnt my trade as a pipe organ builder and tuner. Music and photography are my two passions in life. For the future? I will be starting a photography degree in September to keep the old grey matter in working order and hope to start making a bit of beer money from my photos.

I've worked hard to get to the bottom and I kinda like it there. Actually, I'm medically retired from uncle-sam Inc. so these days it's hobbies close to home and medical appointments. Exciting I know, but somebody has to do it. My background was in defense, both active duty and contracting. I don't snore and my favorite color is yellow.

My job is very interesting, I'm an allround decor/scenery carpenter and working for the dutch television
I'm specialized in interior/furniture building and CNC mill operator, but also MIG welding is no problem for me, the only thing I don't do is painting..... So you can say that I have to be a sort of "MacGyver", I must be able to sort out all kinds of problems that can happen within minutes before a 'live on air show' (never leave home without WD40 and Gaffa tape!!)
But at night I transform to a playstation3 GT5 racedriver

I'm a bit of a dinosaur. During the day I work on machines made in the 1940's - 1960's (not cnc's at all) but volume, like dorian-grey, but for contrast, and to stay relevant, I repair computers on the side and provide (rudimentary) web services and photography pro bono for some non-profits. So, the machines are quite analog and the rest is digital.

In another life, I was an IT technical worker that was getting more and more bored by politics entering the technical field, something that generally implied in bad technical decisions which just made a medium problem in the present become a huge problem in the not-so-distant future. At my last job, this trend got up to its zenith; I've got full of it and then quited, and nowadays I'm rather dashed about IT in general.
What's my day job now? House-husband. I'm also thinking about regaining a career on Physics - my original college course - despite my somewhat advanced age for the field (40+ years).

I translate English > German > English, mostly for companies' websites but also for individuals who need a document translated, or whatever they might need. This job requires lots of research, love for detail, dedication to quality and specialized knowledge in the domains one works in—besides the obvious linguistic skills. My previous professional life in Germany has well prepared me for this and I am enjoying it tremendously. As most of the client contact is conducted over the Internet, I can work from home, which the wife (and our cats) very much appreciate.

Currently a senior analyst for a well known UK Utilities provider. done various roles in the electricity industry since I joined 8 years ago, and currently doing performance analysis of field DR services (Meter reading)
But due to defect to the dark side in the new year and become a field team manager of meter readers, which should provide some interesting fodder for photography since the team covers the NW of England in which there is some bleak at times (North Yorkshire/Lancashire/Cumbria) but fantastic country.

I'm an embedded IT applications developer working for the University of Connecticut library system with the library archivists and preservationists. Software, servers and services are my stock-in-trade.
My current project is to develop a Digital Archive Management system (DAM) around an open source project called Fedora Commons that will (hopefully) one day be open sourced and available to anyone that wants it.
Regrettably, I'm a far better coder than I am a photographer.

I'm a .NET Software developer who started his own business writing software for the taxi industry in the UK. When you order a cab via a mobile app, or get a text to say it's outside, or just call the cab office and they can tell you exactly where the cab is and how much longer it will be.... Good chance you've used one of our systems!

Somehow my first "real" job kinda followed me from one side of the world to here downunder, in the previous life it was transport squad leader and through a series of strange coincidences I've ended up a despatch leading hand working for one of the 2 big grocery chains down here. Even the climate stayed the same as I'm stuck on the cold storage side of the warehouse Not sure I can tell what's more stressfull and frustrating, slinging ammo and fuel for rifle companies or shipping produce and meat to bigcity stores. Though I'd freely admit I'd rather do a hot regas than handle christmas/easter madness in retail!

Right now I am the head cook, chief bottle washer, and house husband extraordinaire. I am also a co-owner of a Keller Williams Realty franchise in central Virginia and do real estate consulting and lead generation for a top notch, high volume Realtor. I took some time away from my day job as a full-time Realtor to become house husband extraordinaire while my lovely wife finished up her Masters in Nursing (Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner). I took up photography to get out of the house. It's tough being house husband extraordinaire! When I was much younger I was a heavy equipment operator and rigger and managed a crane, rigging and millwright company in south Texas (after college). I'm always growing. Who knows what (or who) I'll be next?
PS...I've read almost all of this thread and have really enjoyed the humor and opportunity to get to know my fellow Dyxumers.
edited b/c I can't spell worth a darn.

I'm a packaging engineer working for a major multinational consumer products corporation.
My mother had a passion for photography, though she never was one professionally. With my mother's passing and my strong interest in anything related to audio/video, photography sparked strong interest for me just a couple of years ago. I honed in on Sony due to the strong performance/price ratio, and my mother's last camera was a Minolta Maxxum 7000.
I consider myself a newbie to photography and a casual shooter, but learning tons every time I get to shoot, or browse the Dyxum forums. EAA Airventure Oshkosh was basically an early X-mas for me.
